I've got no idea what make of washing powder/liquid it is but it reeks.

It's the sort of smell that hangs around and stinks like cheap perfume.

I am guessing it's a cheap detergent with a conditioner which is then tumbledried. Whatever, it's truly boakable.

Is it the co-op Peony fabric condotioner? Very strong, I love it.

Yanbu to find a scent yucky.

TBH I think that if you use so much of a scent that it wafts around persistently so that everyone can smell it from a couple of feet away, that's too much.

There's a woman on one of my trains who douses herself in perfume, and uses so much of it you can smell it across the width of the carriage. It's really harsh and catches in your throat- grim!

putonyourredshoes · 10/10/2012 10:21

I don't think it can be peony, which sounds v pleasant.

No, it's a sort of clean smell, not unpleasant in itself but so damn strong it hurts the throat (not really).

Hmm, imagine how the smell of bleach lingers? It is sort of like that.

And there seems to be more of it about. In fact I've been to houses where it's the first smell that hits the nose. And I smoked for 20 years so can't claim to have the best sense of smell.

Washing powder with a bleachy aroma? Is this person a work colleague?

putonyourredshoes · 10/10/2012 10:32

No, it's a bloody collection of them stinking out the playground and making their kids pong too.

They are clean admittedly so I guess I shouldn't complain. Shouldn't but ...

I loathe most soapy detergent perfume disinfectant smells. Walking into Wilkinson's is my idea of Hell.

I was in a soft-play toilet once, a little girl kept carrying on about the horrible stink (disinfectant). The mother kept trying to say it was a nice smell because it meant clean.

I wanted to shriek it does not, if anything it meant someone didn't know how to clean properly.

putonyourredshoes · 10/10/2012 11:09

SoleSource, this was meant to be a serious moan about an endemic playground problem. But now you have made me laugh so much I am glad to know these stinkers!

Some of them are rather strong, yes. Some years ago I bought a different brand detergent and fabric conditioner (no idea what they were), but didn't realise quite how pungent they were until a business contact walked into our small, but open-plan, office and said "bloody hell, it smells like a tart's boudoir in here". Blush

I kept that stuff for sheets and towels and bought my usual ones for clothes Grin.
