An I the only parent that don't freeze sandwiches

Hot topic on the break table today was this.

There was 7 parents on the table and they all do it, after googling it is possible.

Aibu to think I am not the only person who doesn't freeze sandwiches.

It does make sense as you can do a weeks worth ahead of time and just grab one out of the freezer and bung everything else in the bag.

Omg never done thisConfused

drypond · 09/10/2012 18:09

i didnt even know you could!

StaceeJaxx · 09/10/2012 18:10

Urgh have never done this. I can't see how they would be edible TBH, wouldn't the bread be all soggy when it had defrosted?

Tiggles · 09/10/2012 18:10

Nope, can't stand previously frozen bread. Mind you, as my DSs don't like butter, and tend to have a wrap, putting a piece of ham/salami in a wrap is the quick part. Chopping all the salad takes much longer.

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 18:10

I freeze bread. Correction, I freeze DP's bread. Because he likes a certain type of expensive bread that I refuse to buy for it to go to waste.

I don't like bread frozen, so wouldn't do it for DS's sandwiches.

Not that he has them. He has school dinners.

Perhaps my contribution to the thread has been somewhat pointless. But um, no, I don't think you are being unreasonable to not freeze sandwiches!

maebyfunke · 09/10/2012 18:10

I don't.

I can see why you would in the summer as it may keep the lunch box cool but I wouldn't like to eat defrosted sandwiches so wouldn't do it for my kids!

MrsjREwing · 09/10/2012 18:12

I don't, I knew you could with cheese and ham.

Sparklingbrook · 09/10/2012 18:12

My DC don't like/eat butter either. It's a real pain. Sad

ZombTEE · 09/10/2012 18:13

I make sandwiches with frozen bread, but I don't actually freeze the sandwiches.

Floralnomad · 09/10/2012 18:13

Never heard of anyone who does this . How long does it take to make a sandwich.

HoratiaWinwood · 09/10/2012 18:13

It wouldn't work for all flavours, would it.

I thought I was enough of a slattern doing them the night before, not in the morning. Doing a week's worth is gross. And it barely saves time, since you still have to compile the rest of the lunchbox.

gazzalw · 09/10/2012 18:14

Good grief that sounds anally organised......

McHappyPants2012 · 09/10/2012 18:14

Glad I am not the only one.

I know doing 4 packed lunches a day is a PITA, but this alittle Ott

MerylStrop · 09/10/2012 18:14

No I just make them the night before.

My freezers full of other stuff anyhow

Mintyy · 09/10/2012 18:14

Madam, I have never frozen a sandwich in my life!

halloweeneyqueeney · 09/10/2012 18:15

previously frozen bread is grim unless toasted, yuck!

LondonMother · 09/10/2012 18:15

Defrosted sandwiches are fine. I use the leftover turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce at Christmas to make sandwiches that I then freeze. I eat one or two a week all through January and they are lovely. Ham and mustard also freezes well. No good for sandwiches with egg, mayonnaise or salad stuff, though, obviously.

TheDetective · 09/10/2012 18:15

I'm another who doesn't like butter! Why is this a pain? Surely it is easier! Takes less time that way Grin

Boomerwang · 09/10/2012 18:16

I've frozen ham because I buy the misshapen stuff that comes in big vacuum packs. I freeze bread because I hate it when it starts to go dry a day after buying it. I've even frozen a tub of spread when there's a three for two offer because I don't want all three sitting in the fridge, but I've never frozen a ready prepared sandwich. I'm sure it'll go all soggy when it's left wrapped up, right?

Oh it's fine at home TheDetective. Just everywhere else. Grin

dikkertjedap · 09/10/2012 18:16

Never tried, I always make sandwiches in the morning. Only takes a few minutes anyway.

Fairylea · 09/10/2012 18:17

I never do this. Never heard of it.

I make dds sandwiches the night before and clingfilm them and put them in the fridge till the morning.

I think frozen bread tastes awful ... in my opinion anyway.

Leftwingharpie · 09/10/2012 18:18

I freeze my sandwiches since reading it on Mumsnet, not only is it convenient but it stops me tucking in at 9am cause I have to wait for them to defrost slightly!
