HV told me to introduce foods to get DS to sleep better at about 4.5 months. I really regret not knowing better. The only thing I can console myself with is that he didn't have any cereals etc, so no gluten.

Really should have waited.

6.5mths for all.

No faffing for weeks with purée and within 2 months they all ate exactly what we the rest of us did.

I honestly don't know why people are in such a rush

ScrambledSmegsEvilTwin · 08/10/2012 16:56

I think it was about 6 months, or shortly thereafter. She wasn't able to sit properly before that and I was absolutely neurotic about choking.

She wasn't that interested anyway until about 8 months old. Then we couldn't get the food on the table fast enough! Still loves her food, her grandparents on both sides love cooking for her as a toddler who enjoys her food in our families is such a novelty.

Newtothisstuff · 08/10/2012 16:57

Dd1 was a milk refuser so hospital weaned her at about 10 weeks (2007)
Dd2 I've just started her on bits and bobs and she's 21 weeks she loves it HV didn't seem concerned either

Eldest was 15.5 weeks but was taking over 90oz of formula a day and still looking for more but unable to take it. He drank less when he had a bit of mush in him and seemed calmer and happier.
Younger 3 were all around 6 months and BLW.

ChippyMinton · 08/10/2012 16:58

I did. Partly because none of them were looking for food. And partly because it suited me, as DH and I wanted to leave them with grandparents overnight and it was easier to have bottles rather than solids.

KenLeeeeeee · 08/10/2012 17:04

DS1 - 4.5 months (on the advice of older family)
Ds2 - 6.5 months
DD - 5.5 months.

DS3 is 21 weeks & today nicked a bit of toast off my plate & sucked on it for a few seconds before I twigged. He seems very pleased with himself but I want to wait a few more weeks before properly launching into BLW.

Ds2 &3 were 6 months, can't remember how old ds1 was but weaning age was younger then

nickeldaisical · 08/10/2012 17:08

DD was about 5 days off 6 months.
but she did it herself by sticking her fingers into my sunday dinner and sucking them!

we've been doing BLW, so it's all been like that.
(except whenever i offer her food, she opens her mouth like a sodding baby bird!)

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 08/10/2012 17:16

I didn't because the advice was different back then. TBH, I really don't know how DS1 would have coped without solids until 6 months, he'd have probably got up and helped himself!

RobynRidingHood · 08/10/2012 17:17

10 weeks - 1995 and 1996 - no allergies, deformities, incompetence, blah blah

LonelyCloud · 08/10/2012 17:22

We waited till about 6.5 months with DS.

I don't think he was properly ready for it in terms of being able to sit / grab at food etc, but he was early and we were advised to start weaning at 6 months actual age.

lokabrenna · 08/10/2012 17:26

We did BLW, so he tried some banana when he was ready to pick it up and smush it in his face. This was well past six months.

tomverlaine · 08/10/2012 17:27

yes- didn't see the urgency and given the stated advice had no reason to go against it

RubyFakeNails · 08/10/2012 17:28

Never

DD1 (17 years ago) and DS (16 years ago) both at 8 or 10 weeks can't remember, I know it was around or just over 2 months.

DD2 (6 years ago) I lasted until 12 weeks. Considering the digestive health of older 2 children I felt it was a calculated risk.

Kalisi · 08/10/2012 17:32

BLW at 5.5 months. He was on 3 meals a day by 6 months although most ended up on the floor. Seriously could not have waited any longer the kid was ( and still is!) an absolute eating machine!!

Softlysoftly · 08/10/2012 17:42

Thank you, proper mixed bag!

DD2 has some serious sleep issues and doesn't seem satisfied on bm alone, never has really. HV told me 2 weeks ago to wean, I have to go in on Thursday (jabs no choice) and tell her I haven't.

Considering sticking some rice/banana/cooked carrot in front of her and if she eats it fine, if she doesn't fine!

Softlysoftly · 08/10/2012 17:43

She's 19 wks

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 08/10/2012 17:45

Both mine were FF, if that's relevant. And the advice then was to wean between 4-6 months

DS1 - 16 weeks. Even then, I suspect he could have started earlier.
DS2 - 20 weeks

OHforDUCKScake · 08/10/2012 17:46

I did with DS2.

But he did try some yoghurt at 5 months. He went into anaphylactic shock after it though so pretty much feared food after that.

Makingmama · 08/10/2012 17:46

Me with all 3 dcs, 1 was very small and 2 were very large 98th centile!
