Bunbaker, if all bra sice calculators claim you are a 34A or AA, you are probably around 30D.

Northernlurkerisbehindyouboo · 09/10/2012 10:21

I have the Panache Tango too - brilliant bra!

CheddarandMarmite · 09/10/2012 10:24

Thanks statistically

Have just tried them all on again. Discovered that if I do them up to the tightest strap then two of them (John Lewis) fit better and are flat against my chest (seemed counter-intuitive) but not sure if the cup size is right - but can't actually work out if I think it is too big or too small - if I stand up straight seems too small and am bulging slightly at the top of the cups and if I slouch cups seem to gape a bit Confused. May be partly that they are more plunging style than a nursing bra.

Other two (Debenhams) definitely don't fit, think the back is too big as they aren't flat against my chest, also am spilling out of the top of the cups.

greeneyed · 09/10/2012 10:24

Yes i was told in Bravissimo that if the bra fit properly there were no problems with wires in pregnancy, only if it was digging into your breast tissue which it shouldn't be. Seems the avoid wired advice is outdated now however M & S don't really move with the times do they! Agree their bras are also rubbish and saggy in no time.

greeneyed · 09/10/2012 10:25

If anyone in M & S marketing department picks up this thread on your radar, please can you send me £5000 to get my boobs uplifted and I'll stop slating you online :)

NumericalMum · 09/10/2012 10:36

I went from a 34 whatever to a 30GG at bravissimo and my boobs are lovely now! I do struggle to find nice ones though. I like tshirt type ones and can get one I like, a panache one, in a 30G that is perfect. I bought 3 from amazon recently as they no longer seem to stock them anywhere.

Bizarrely I have a lot more trouble finding my back size than my cup size!

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 10:46

Same here NumericalMum. Have you tried this site?

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 10:49

Cheddar It sounds to me like you do need to go down a back size and up a cup, especially if you've got some bulging and you're doing the bras up on the tightest hooks. Bear in mind that plunge shapes might not be the best shape for you. I can't wear them as I fall out of even the biggest cups. I stick to baclcony style that give more uplift.

PropositionJoe · 09/10/2012 10:50

Nonsense. There are loads of places that do big bras. Try getting a AA cup in any style other than plain (or "my first bra")

MsVestibule · 09/10/2012 10:56

I'm 34FF and never have any trouble buying bras. I have a Sadie the Bra Lady shop a 5 minute walk from my house and Bravissimo is a 40 minute drive. Yes, they're expensive (upwards of £30) but I'd happily spend that on a top I'd probably only wear a few times, so why not spend that much on something I'll wear for 16 hours per day for a year?

No, I don't have a wide range of bras, but a sports bra, a "normal" bra and a plunge black bra for going out does me fine. But my £65 Bravissimo tankini will have to last me a few years Wink.

Latara · 09/10/2012 10:58

My problem is that i'm a 36GG (definitely) - i can afford no higher than max £30 a bra but would prefer to pay less.

I'm looking for the following:

Black or bright colours like pinks, dark reds etc. - i would never wear yucky white or beige.

Underwiring is essential; with a good fitting, supportive band underneath.

Slight padding is essential to give shape & to give a 'push up' effect.

I hate to admit it - but i'd prefer to look like i've got uplifted fake breasts that do not sag at all; than to look like i've got saggy, heavy breasts.

Minimising bras are ugly make me look fatter than i actually am.

Wide bra straps that can be made as short as possible are best for me (i have slim shoulders).

I like more breast coverage than you get from eg. a Balcony Bra - to minimize 'wobble' in ALL situations. (Except the gym - for which i'd need a separate Sports Bra. Sports Bra provision is shite for GG cups too.).

'ALL situations except the gym' includes:

In work - I work in a physically hard job (healthcare).
I have no car; so have to walk a lot or travel on buses with poor suspension.
At night - i may choose to go dancing in a club but no way could i hit the dancefloor without proper 'support'.

So i'm looking for a colourful, very supportive, padded, underwired push up bra in 36GG with fabric that covers 2/3 of the breast (but doesn't show under low-cut tops); wide-ish shoulder straps; & a decent price (under £30; preferably £20).

Any suggestions please?

NumericalMum · 09/10/2012 10:59

Thanks Sorrel!

alemci · 09/10/2012 11:02

I am a 30dd and very narrow across back and shoulders. usually JL are briliant but I bought a wonderbra in that size and it literally made marks on my back; it was uncomfortable

I have washed it and am hoping it will give a bit.

love Chantelle bras but they are expensive.

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 11:11

alemci I think Wonderbra can come up a little small in the band.

PropositionJoe Hmm, it's not always nonsense. I'm a 30G and find it very hard to get bras on the highstreet as many shops only stock larger cups in a 32/34+ band.

HazleNutt · 09/10/2012 11:23

Diference between the AA and G is that while AA can be just pretty, G needs to be feat of engineering to offer the necessary support. So even if there seems to be some selection available, most of them are useless.

Also, as sorrel said, bigger cups usually only come with bigger backs. Quite difficuly if you're slim but busty or even not so slim but over G cup.

StatisticallyChallenged · 09/10/2012 11:25

I also agree, not nonsense. There are basically two shops in my city where I can get bras due to a combination of lots starting at a 32 or 34, and lots stopping at a dd or g. There are online options but I seem to spend a small fortune ordering stuff which doesn't fit correctly and needs posted back. Because of the pathetic amount available on the high street a huge number of big boobed women wear the wrong size which can have health implications.

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 11:25

Latara So i'm looking for a colourful, very supportive, padded, underwired push up bra in 36GG with fabric that covers 2/3 of the breast (but doesn't show under low-cut tops); wide-ish shoulder straps; & a decent price (under £30; preferably £20).

What about:
Bra Stop Flirtelle
Debenhams Panache Fern

loopylou6 · 09/10/2012 11:55

Oxford, thanks for pointing that out, I'm going to see if I can measure myself the bravissimo way :)

RedBlanket · 09/10/2012 12:09

Propositionjoe - loads of ah

RedBlanket · 09/10/2012 12:11

Oops, meant to say
Loads of shops do big cups, but not with small backs as well 32g here. There really isn't all that much choice and hardly ever less than £25-30 for something decent. And if you want strapless, backless forget it!

YerMaw1989 · 09/10/2012 12:16

I got myself a few extenders off the net pretty cheap, good for inbetween pregnancies coz I always go up a backsize when preg.

Or just in shops where the backsize isn't as good as your other bra's etc.

some really good links on here.

I am reduced to Debenhams or M and S for my 13 year old! She measures a 30DD. Bras most expensive thing I buy her.

Dunno where the boobs came from, I am only a 36c, and her sisters are around the same.

SorrelForbes · 09/10/2012 12:26

My 13 yr old niece is a 28DD (although Debenhams put her in a 30D in one bra as she said the 28 was too tight!). I managed to get her a nice double pack of lightly padded bras in Debenahs. I can't remember exactly how much they were but they were definitely under £20.

But, as us 'Bra Bores' keep saying, a D/DD isn't big busted at all. A 'D' cup is only a 4" difference between the under and across bust measurements.

alemci · 09/10/2012 12:31

yes my dd is a 28E. now 18. she kept getting bigger and it cost a fortune.

she is much bigger than me at that age. i think it is the hormones in the water possibly.

maybeyoushoulddrive · 09/10/2012 12:38

Sorrel that website is fantastic! Real size women celebrating their curves - am fed up of looking at bras online and seeing models with tiny breasts showing off the bras...
