The economy is proving harder to fix than he first thought

Solution- suggest cutting £10bn from the benefits budget and "limit the number of children people can claim for". So- are you supposed to choose your 2 favourite and just feed them then? Or what?

Sadpanda those studies were all written a) before 1994, which is when (in the US) ASD become a diagnosis (rather than autism), and b) before the massive rise in diagnoses in the US and some countries in western Europe during the late 90s/00s. So not sure if they'd still be considered the latest or definitive research. A study in 1997 by John Hopkins university concluded that the reason for the rise even at that point was down to the combination of factors.

gordyslovesheep · 08/10/2012 20:17

just to say it's not 'tax payers money' it is the money people legally claim and can do what the fuck they like with - I hate this idea that it's 'your' money ergo you have the right to look down on people who claim it

A life on benefits is shit - unless you fiddle the system it's eeking out a life - it's debt and it's going without

regardless of what you read in the press we don't need to punish the worse off in society to pay for the errors of the rich

expatinscotland · 08/10/2012 20:17

'Well usual, your hard earned bucks are paying for his two bed flat, but if you're happy about that.... '

Probably could pay for 20 of those flats with the money our hard-earned bucks paid for the drainage system in Gideon's tennis court.

hard working honest people can claim housing benefit if they can't afford rent you know Grin

expatinscotland · 08/10/2012 20:21

'And no, I don't think a 16 YO child should be able to get a flat when hard working honest people can't afford to move out of their parents' homes well into their twenties. Something isn't right there.'

They're perfectly able to do the same thing, get their parents to say they are kicking them out and go the homeless route to get a flat, which will probably be in a crap area.

Report him for obtaining the flat by fraudulent means then, Flick, if it bothers you so much.

gordyslovesheep · 08/10/2012 20:27

or a shoe box in t' middle of road Usual

PanonOlympus · 08/10/2012 20:28

Well of course there's a need for the Tories to appeal to their 'heartland' of voters, as well as keeping the more extreme MPs on side as well. The 'economic' argument re '35 yo grandparents' is obv farcical, but Osborne and Cameron are more concerned about the PR message than actual economics.

A cardboard box? What each? That is waaaaaaay too generous. Next you'll be saying they deserve a blanket as well.
