AIBU not to want DS's new uniform to stink of smoke?

2 out of the 3 times I've been into the local uniform shop to buy the kit that DS needs, it's been empty, and as I've come in causing the bell over the door to ring, the lady has come.bustling in through the open back door, trailing cigarette smoke behind her. All the clothes I've bought smell of fags.

Obviously, I can wash them and that's fine, but it's more of a principle thing - AIBU in thinking that if you run this type of shop, you probably shouldn't be selling goods that you've fumed all over?

Nope, it's the only local uniform shop. I can buy online, but delivery is 21 days so not workable when you need stuff replaced.

Should she be smoking on the premises?

I don't think I'd like to buy anything that stinks of fags, never mind children's clothes. Though I'm stumped as to what you could do about it.

I'd ask for a discount due to the smoke smell.

She's not technically smoking on the premises, it's a tiny courtyard out back, but the door is open so she can hear the bell, and when she comes in, she's either left it lit out there or just stubbed it out as she brings smoke in with her.

YANBU I'm suprised noone has said anything to her, but if its the only place selling it she probably knows people don't have a choice but to buy from her.
Is there no way you can buy from highstreet/supermarket or is the school really picky about logos?

is it school branded stuff? I'd tell the school in that case.

The school aren't massively fussed about polo shirts and other PE kit not being branded, but they're pretty strict on the winter uniform (jumper, tie, etc). YOu're probably right, she knows they're the only stockist locally. In fact, they're the only stockist for ALL the local schools, so it's not just DS's place.

Maybe it'll be good to mention to the school, because otherwise you're right, I do'nt actually know what to do about it...

"How do you trail cigarette smoke behind you?" I know what NoWay means by this, I'm only 3 weeks into not smoking and gosh I miss it, when someone walks in after a fag it trails after them and i trail after them enjoying the smell.

YANBU. I was recently a smoker and I wouldn't have wanted this even then. Write to the manager, it's not nice especially for a non smoker.
