to hate the phrase "nudie rudie"?

Okay, this is utterly trivial. But here goes anyway.

If my MIL - who is lovely - ever encounters my DSs (who are 2 and 4) naked - running about after a bath, getting ready for bed, whatever - she always goes "Oooh, nudie rudie!" I've heard her say it about her DGDs too. She literally says it EVERY TIME she encounters an unclothed child.

I just hate it. I'm fairly relaxed about nakedness, and my DSs don't, yet, think that naked = rude. I'd like to preserve that for a wee bit longer. I can't seem to find a way to ask her not to say it to my DCs without sounding mean or disrespecful. So I'll just grumble on here...

I call my nudie dudies. Both love being naked (age 6 and 3) and could not care a fig who sees them so they appear to be unscathed :)

You're right it is trivial.

On the other hand, if your 4yr old doesn't think there's anything rude about being naked, she/he will soon find out different if they randomly decide to strip off in school when they start

My mum says "rudey dudey"... I don't think it's offensive, just a comical term, esp when accompanied with look of mock shock. If you're DCs are comfortable with their nakedness anyway as you say, then it shouldn't matter.

I say rudey dudey. It's just a jokey phrase. My girls love being naked. Oldest is nearly 9.

It's rudie nudie in our house followed by lots of Benny Hill like running around the house. From the children, not me you understand.

YABU.... How on earth does a kid work out that grandma giggling 'nudey rudie' at them means they should be embarrassed to be naked?

We say 'nakey snakey' invented by my 3 year old. Is this acceptable?

Yabu we say it to our five it hasnt given them any issues.

Its made more funny as ds4 is called rudi our nudey rudi dudey boy! or roodlebug or whatever nickname we are currently using.

Its always said jovily and in a jokey manner in our house and not taken seriously.

We have what we call 'the nudie rudie run' in our house... DS (14 months) loves nothing more than getting out the bath and running around naked before we catch him and get him dressed for bed.

I didn't think anything of calling it the nudie rudie run...it's just a bit of fun and we certainly don't, in our minds, attach any negative connotations to it!

What would seriously mess up their self-consciousness would be if MIL didn't allow the kids out of the bathroom until they had donned full-length clothing, hats and gloves and then made them prostrate themselves on the floor & pray forgiveness to the almighty for their flagrant shame....

Oh lordy. ds aged 10 will fly past shouting "it's a rudey nudey" at some point most days, usually followed by the sound of his maniacal laughter as he sprints back up the stairs having grabbed something from the wash. I'll really miss it when he gets to the self conscious stage and doesn't do it any more, but the phrase obviously hasn't made him think nudity is wrong at any point over the last 10 years that's for sure.

Nudie Rudie has never made a child suddenly want to cover up unless they already felt uncomfortable being naked around people iyswim.

OTOH my mother calls my DD 'sexy bum/sexy legs' whenever DD is naked or wearing leggings. Makes me cringe every time but i try to ignore because it's not said nastily.

I'd rather 'Nudie Rudie' tbh.

It won't affect their views of their bodies honestly.

Naked kids are always nudey rudeys in our house!
As are anything that has been peeled....
DD will only eat nudey rudey apples, and she's partial to nudey rudey cucumber too.
