What would happen if someone fell in the cut and there was someonewas walking past with ine of those on?

Expectations would be raised for a safe and timely rescue.

But those hopes would be utterly dashed when the 9yo Tallulah announced it was just bought in Newquay in the summer and she only has just got her 25m.

Pardon? What's a hooie?

MadgeHarvey · 02/10/2012 22:02

I understand the individual words, mostly, but when you put them together like that - nope - nothing. Grin
What are you saying exactly?

Annunziata · 02/10/2012 22:03

Hoodie?

ChaosTrulyReigns · 02/10/2012 22:10

Yus, hoodie.

It's those goodies that look like authentic lifeguard ones (even have name of holiday destination and lifeguard on them) but are sold in seaside towns isn't it?
And the cut being the canal?
When I first saw people wearing them I thought that bude just had loads of lifeguards.....then I realised some of the people wearing them were definatly not lifeguard material :)

TalcAndTurnips · 02/10/2012 22:13

Yup and real lifeguards get hacked off seeing their intensive training devalued.

Come on, everyone - approach your casualty carefully from behind, apply the vice grip - turn and traaaaaaaaaaawl.

Whaddabout the lifeguardz? Sad

Annunziata · 02/10/2012 22:21

The best lifeguards don't wear hoodies. Just shorts...

TalcAndTurnips · 02/10/2012 22:25

But the Lady lifeguards need something up top, Annunziata Shock

I recommend a brightly-coloured polo shirt.

ChippyMinton · 02/10/2012 22:29

Before getting oneself in a potential drowning situation you must check the hoodie thus:
If the stick-on lettering for the person's name is in a different font/colour to the seaside resort name, they're a wrong un. And you're gonna have to save yerself.

Annunziata · 02/10/2012 22:31

True. Actually, they could wear hoodies, they are all so bloody thin, it's just unfair to the rest of us Grin

smellsabit · 02/10/2012 22:31

its a necessary sexy accessory with tiny shorts!

maytheoddsbeeverinyourfavour · 02/10/2012 22:32

Fell in the cut? That would have to be one large wound Grin

YANBU though the hoodies are a stupid idea

NormanTheForeman · 02/10/2012 22:32

I quite agree Chaos! My lovely owner is a complete and utter supporter of the RNLI (including their lifeguards). He has been distressed to see people walking round with bogus lifeguard clothing.

I should say at this point that he does now own a bona fide RNLI lifeguard polo shirt and knitted hat (given to him by some friendly lifeguards) but he has decided never to wear the polo shirt at the beach (in case anyone thinks an 11 year old might actually be able to rescue them Hmm)........

ChaosTrulyReigns · 03/10/2012 10:09

Sounds like your owner is a tweedle of the sensible kind, Norm.

I own one, was wearing it yesterday! Though, I am actually a qualified first aider and have had some lifeguard training. I bought my hoodie in California, and it does not look like the hoodies that actual life guards have (I have a proper lifeguard one too from when I did my training, but I don't wear it because it isn't as cute as the tourist version Blush).

Once I did have a random lady come up to me and ask me questions about the pool I work at; I thought she was crackers. Forgot I was wearing the lifeguard hoodie...

VIX1980 · 03/10/2012 10:46

I hadnt seen these until yesterday but after visiting a restaurant i saw a man walk in wearing one and sniggered to my oh how he definately wasnt life guard material, the 2 plates of ribs for starters then a steak the size of his head confirmed this Grin

yanbu, they are horrible and there are plenty f other hoodies available that are much nicer.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 03/10/2012 11:12

YANBU. I've previously told my kids that if they get lost on the beach, they can go to one of the lifeguards for help.

Now that anyone can go around with a hoodie labelled "Lifeguard", that's not really an option any more.

MsElisaDay · 03/10/2012 11:27

YANBU.

I only saw these for the first time last summer, as they don't appear to have the same popularity in northern seaside villages. You don't get people dressed in hotpants and bright pink Lifeguard hoodies in Bamburgh or Crosby, for example. They have more sense.

But then I had the misfortune to go to Padstow, and saw the craze in all its horror. The place was crawling with overprivileged kids, shrieking for a £15 box of fish and chips, in their neon-bright Lifeguard hoodies. I will never be going to Cornwall in the height of summer again.

FatherHankTree · 03/10/2012 11:41

One of the surfy places in the southwest stopped selling the red ones, think it was Woolacombe or Croyde. There's still too many twats wearing them though.

Having said that, they look so good Hmm with Jack Wills crap and a pair of flipflops which cost £££££££££££.

FatherHankTree · 03/10/2012 11:42

Why the underlining?, I'm not trying to market prententious clothes.

OutragedAtThePriceOfFreddos · 03/10/2012 11:46

I have a Royal Navy hoodie from a friend who bought it in the little shop they have at their base in Plymouth. I hope no one expects me to get on a ship and fight and stuff! Shock

SaidFlorence · 03/10/2012 11:47

My 10 yo dd has one. I'm sure nobody thinks she is actually a lifeguard Hmm

SuePurblybilt · 03/10/2012 11:50

Tis the law in the SW to wear them with flip flops or dabs, short shorts and hair that looks like you've been through a prickly bush, if you're aged 14-20 and of the Jack Wills persuasion.

Will we make a law, Chaos? Like Impersonating an Orificer or something?
