Is it just me who finds the thought of dogs, cats and guinea pets sharing their owners bed absolutely disgusting? And btw i like pets, I just think they do not belong in the bedroom. Think of the fur, danders, fleas etc...ugh!!

Ruby, I love rats! I've never had them as pets because we always had cats, but they are a really cool pet! And so smart!
I can totally see them all cuddling with you.

I simply can't imagine sleeping without a heap of cats/dogs in the bed. How on earth do you keep warm without them. DD1 is over the moon that we have MagnifiCat as she no longer has to fight DD2 for FailCat.

Of course, now that DD1 has officially but somehow still not left home, DD2 has both cats in bed with her. And whilst we have the Whoops, we have ended up with both DDs, LittleDog, FailCat, and MagnifiCat in bed with me.

S'been lovely snuggly warm. Grin

My pets (dog and two cats) are clean and flea-free but they sleep downstairs. I'll happy share a sofa with them but I can't share a bed as one of the cats insists on trying to sleep on my throat/chest and it sets my asthma off. There isn't room in the bed for me, husband and dog even if I wanted the latter to join us but tbh I prefer to keep dog downstairs as climbing up and down the stairs isn't good for his elderly joints and he farts like a stink bomb factory .

So sorry about your Cat Math :(

Lovethesea · 03/10/2012 21:47

I was always sad my parents never let our dogs share my bed so I used to have 3 cats on mine once I'd left home, and now have our rescue cat stretching out on the kingsize.

He's cleaner than the kids and DH, softer, cuddlier and doesn't snore. Right now he has laid along my leg while I sit on the bed and later he'll settle resting on my feet on top of the duvet.

If he wants to come under the duvet that's fine by me. He is warm, comforting, friendly and always welcome. Can't understand people who wouldn't want them in the bed with them?

Co-sleeping however, with children, no way, what a nightmare. All elbows and knees and starfish impressions Grin

Oh god no, a cat in your bed, under your duvet??? No No No! It cannot be hygienic or healthy, sorry.

My DH banned dogs from coming onto our bed Sad but he'd relent at the weekend and we'd have snuggles in bed with various hounds sprawled on top of the duvet, as he'd wash the bedding afterwards. My basset doesn't even get that anymore, or time on the settee, as he's too clumsy and will crush DD!

I used to share my bed with my old basset. She slept on top of my duvet, but under her own blanket, next to the wall. With her head on my pillow, or tucked into my arm which would be under her head. She also had her own beaker of water incase she got thirsty. Lovely bassety smells and snores. I miss her still.

Well its a good job you'll never get into my bed then isnt it!
Dogs make fantastic hot waterbottles!

neuroticmumof3 · 03/10/2012 22:22

I love the comforting feel of my dog snuggled up behind my knees at night. Some nights she abandons me and sleeps in her own bed. When she does that I sleep really badly! Keep waking up and wondering where she is.

cory · 03/10/2012 22:25

absolutely! I would never let my catfish share my bed!

topknob · 03/10/2012 22:25

Kind of with op, the cats sleep in the utility and the dog has the run of the house, but she knows beds aren't allowed, however if dh wasn't here it would be a whole different thing going on :)

HarlettOScara · 03/10/2012 22:38

I used to let our Rottweiler X sleep on the bed with me when DP was working away. I slept better with his company and it's very hard to warm a super king size bed by yourself. Gradually, he started sleeping on the bed when DP was home too. He moved out of his own accord when DD arrived. I miss him on the bed at night now even though he snores and hogs the duvet.

NeDeLaMer · 03/10/2012 22:57

My head says 'Yuck - it's not hygenic'
My heart says 'awww - up you come'

My heart always rules my head Grin

Sadly don't have any fluffies at the moment and I do miss them :(

But I don't get much sleep when I have one in/on the bed with me as I don't move a muscle all night as I hate to disturb them! Idiot I know Grin

Guinea Pigs - never in bed, I wouldn't get a minutes sleep worrying I'd squish them!!

catwomanlikesmeatballs · 04/10/2012 01:39

yanbu, I accept that people have different standards but I don't understand how people can sleep with their pets. To me it's disgusting, unhygienic and a bit creepy. Not everyone feels like that though, each to their own.

HarrietSchulenberg · 04/10/2012 02:15

Life is unhygienic though. Pets are unhygienic. Don't understand the difference between a cat on your sofa and a cat on your bed. Luckily neither does my cat, which is why we're both toasty warm at night.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 04/10/2012 11:01

Lucky you don't live in the Middle Ages then! You'd have shared your hovel with cows, pigs, chickens, the dog, cat, several rats, fleas, bedbugs and half a dozen pustulous children! Grin
