Is it just me who finds the thought of dogs, cats and guinea pets sharing their owners bed absolutely disgusting? And btw i like pets, I just think they do not belong in the bedroom. Think of the fur, danders, fleas etc...ugh!!

"I just could never do it though" - well thats OK no-one is trying to make you, are they?

I would like you to expand on the bed sharing guinea pig though

Ephiny · 02/10/2012 13:45

YABU.

I don't share my bed with the dogs, firstly because the old one has continence issues and can't go upstairs anyway, and secondly because they're enormous and there'd be no room for me! I love cuddling them during the day though. Yes they're furry but they don't have fleas, and I like their doggy smell.

Also, they're not 'pets'. They're fur kids family. :)

Lushgreenfields · 02/10/2012 13:47

I let the cats sleep in the bed, but I don't let them eat off my plate like some people do boak

sashh · 02/10/2012 13:48

But having a cat purr on the pillow next to you is a great way to go to sleep.

DameKewcumber · 02/10/2012 13:49

what is the practical difference between having dogs and cats on your sofa, walking around on your furniture etc and your bed? There isn't some kind of magical flea/hair magnet on bed that isn't on any other furniture confused.

In any event, my cat much prefers the nearest pile of clean washing which is way more annoying.

DameKewcumber · 02/10/2012 13:49

confused = Confused

Empusa · 02/10/2012 13:51

My housemate's cat used to climb into your bed by climbing on to the pillow then backing under the duvet so he'd end up with his head on the pillow and his body under the covers, like a little person. Was adorable!

SarahStratton · 02/10/2012 13:54

Why would I not want LittleDog snuggled up in bed with me? Confused

prettybird mine too! He's never lifted a claw to anyone! He only does the tapping thing as often I am already asleep when he comes to bed. Grin They are amazing cats...very intimidating when they want to be, but so non-violent to their humans.

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 02/10/2012 14:03

Odd, random A appeared in my last post. It's like I was giving myself a mark!

LtEveDallas · 02/10/2012 14:08

MuttDog is absolutely, positively, definately NOT allowed on the bed. She tries it on every night before I go to sleep and I send her to her bed.

Eve ignores fact she wakes up with a dog on her feet every morning

My oldest cat comes to bed with one of us at night, usually one of the DC's but has been in with DH and i the last 3 nights.

He's going a bit senile and its a comfort for him to be close, he sleeps with his head on the pillow and we cover him with the duvet. He will sleep till morning.
He's very clean (stopped going out) doesn't have fleas, yes there might be a bit of cat hair but with 3 cats its all over the house anyway!!!

The other 2 wont stay all night and the younger one decides its playtime at 4 o clock in the morning and will divebomb your feet or your head, plus the fact his purr is so loud its like sleeping with a bloody generator!!

It's much easier to put them on the landing!!!

Catniss · 02/10/2012 14:17

I sleep with my 2 cats, it was 3 until a while ago when 1 passed.

I sleeps between my ankles and will not move for love nor money and the little one sleeps either under my chin on on the base of my spine depending on which way I'm laid.

Paiviaso · 02/10/2012 14:26

YABU. My two cats sleep with us sometimes. Their fur feels lovely, and they are like little hotwater bottles by my feet. I'm not allergic to them so I don't know why I would care about dander, and they certainly don't have fleas!

I would like more animals in the future, so I expect staying at my house would go something like this pinterest.com/pin/232498399483953226/

monkeysbignuts · 02/10/2012 14:37

My sister caught h pylori from her cats. They are not no longer kissed or eat of her plate/allowed on the work tops!

monkeysbignuts · 02/10/2012 14:37

now no longer kissed sorry!

OpheliasWeepingWillow · 02/10/2012 14:40

I used to love nothing more than waking up at night to find my cat curled up behind my knees. A little warm heartbeat snuggled up to my legs. This was before DD but it was lovely.

Nice memories.

Pudgy2011 · 02/10/2012 14:48

Have a huge bed but DH and I are greedy bed hoggers and I'm not willing to give up any space for my two 70lb slobbering, fidgeting mutts.

I love my dogs and they can sleep on the floor in the bedroom but that's the limit. No getting up on sofas or beds! I'm pretty strict but give my two an inch and they'll take a mile.

MummyPig24 · 02/10/2012 14:50

I don't allow the cat to share the bed. I don't really care if he sleeps on it in the day but at night he sleeps in his own bed. Annoying purring, dribbling cat waving tail under my nose? Err no. Dogs sharing the bed, absolutely no. I think dogs are pretty stinky though, Urgh_

Sunnywithachanceofshowers · 02/10/2012 14:56

My cat thinks the bed is his, and he graciously allows us to use it night.

He's very elderly now (nearly 19) so doesn't sleep with us as he likes to spread out.

HiHowAreYou · 02/10/2012 14:57

Small sensible pet at bottom of the bed on top of the duvet I'd accept. Cat, little terrier.

Similar sized but more stupid and therefore more liable to fall off, no. Rabbit, tortoise.

Large pet with head on the pillow under the covers I'd not accept. Pony, pot bellied pig.

Tiny creature anywhere in bed also a no from me, for fear of death of pet. Canary, goldfish.

HellonHeels · 02/10/2012 15:01

Nothing more comforting than my two purring snuggly cats sleeping on the bed. One likes to sleep at the foot end, sometimes she will snuggle up to my feet. The other likes to sleep on my legs or behind my knees. When it's cold he gets under the duvet, cuddles up to me or DH and purrs. It's lovely!

D0oinMeCleanin · 02/10/2012 15:10

My dogs don't have fleas. They are de-flea'd monthly and the house is sprayed with flea spray every 6 months. Dd1 is very allergic to fleas and comes out in huge hives. She is also very tasty to fleas. One of the dogs is also allergic to fleas. He bites all of his own fur out if he is exposed to them.

Dander and fur get everywhere anyway. It sticks to clothing and carries around the house, so keeping pets out of the bedrooms would not keep fur at bay, it would find it's way up there stuck to my slippers or jeans.

Allergic dog gets bathed once a week, to soothe his skin. The other dog is a very clean, sleek breed who doesn't smell much and she is far too delicate to go around rolling in anything nasty.

They don't sleep on my bed often, but they're invited in for early morning snuggles if I want a lie in. T'is the only way I manage to get one. They don't settle once someone is up unless they're near me in case I manage to leave the house without them.

The little dog sleeps with us if it's windy because she gets scared and howls all night otherwise.

My terrier knows his place is at the foot of the bed, the little dog is DH's and is allowed to sleep on his pillow and tucked into the duvet with him Hmm This I think is taking things too far Grin

Interesting variety of answers.

I mentioned guinea pigs in my original post because there was another thread on here in Aibu yesterday about people loving having their pets in their beds and a few posters enjoy cuddling up with their guinea pigs who are trained not to pee in the bed!
