Is it just me who finds the thought of dogs, cats and guinea pets sharing their owners bed absolutely disgusting? And btw i like pets, I just think they do not belong in the bedroom. Think of the fur, danders, fleas etc...ugh!!

My dog sleeps under the douvet next to my feet. He has a bath every other day and is probably cleaner than my husband most kids.

My cats nip into the warm bum dip when I get up in the morning, I have squashed them a couple of times when I've got back in and not noticed them there.
The dogs aren't allowed in at all as they like to spread themselves around and my Staffy snores.
DS has a pet Giant African Land Snail, I wouldn't be surprised to find him one morning sharing his pillow with it.

BigFatLegsInWoolyTIghts · 02/10/2012 12:56

I don't think I could cope with a dog in bed though. They're not quite as clean as cats and have that doggy smell to them don't they?

SammyTheSwedishSquirrel · 02/10/2012 12:59

LittleBastardDog growls at me sometimes if I turn over in the night and disturb him Shock

Mine gets bathed in puppy shampoo and smells like baby powder.

BoysBoysBoysAndMe · 02/10/2012 13:05

No to dogs as they aren't as clean, have a doggy smell, and in my house she's not allowed upstairs anyway.

Dh would love to sleep with the dog but there's no chance.

Cats on the other hand I don't mind.

We have an elderly cat which ds1 dotes on. Cat (11) sleeps on ds's (5) pillow with him.

He'll occasionally come to our bed and sleep on my dh pillow.

Puss is clean(mostly white so can see he's clean) , flea free and very loving.

Cats are cleaner than dogs.

My auntie and uncle share a bed with their golden retriever-I would hate that!

mmmm love the smell of farm spaniel in my bed

he is heating as well as company, bet those of you who wrinkle your noses at pets in bed don't live in freezing cold, barely glazed (never mind double or tripe) scabby old houses?

Alameda · 02/10/2012 13:07

when I say tripe improbably mean triple

Alameda · 02/10/2012 13:07

Blush I PROBABLY

HumphreyCobbler · 02/10/2012 13:09

I used to let my cats on my bed. I now boak at the very thought. I have changed a lot as I have grown older.

Ithinkitsjustme · 02/10/2012 13:14

As my pet is a tarantula, I'm in no hurry to let it share my bed, Grin. Seriously I don't understand the whole pet thing in the first place. I don't like fur and don't like animals being caged at all. I would never have an animal in my bedroom, and won't even eat in a house which has animals in it (maybe a bit OTT)

Alameda · 02/10/2012 13:22

tarantulas are furry though

  • mourns dead tarantula :(
FatherHankTree · 02/10/2012 13:23

I won't let the dog on the beds, but I often curl up with her downstairs, when she sprawls across me and I can sniff her beautiful biscuity paws.

englishpigdog · 02/10/2012 13:24

Is it just me or is anyone else wondering who shares their bed with a guinea pig ?

My dog sometimes sleeps on the bed so she can watch tv as she can't see it very well from the floor Grin

MadameCupcake · 02/10/2012 13:24

YANBU - its gross but then I can't even bare the thought of cats or dogs being on my carpet or sofa either!!

miaowmix · 02/10/2012 13:27

Far more appealing than sharing a bed with snotty toddlers I would have thought. Sometimes both the cats sleep on our bed, sometimes one sleeps on DD's. I recently dog sat for a darling mini schnauitzer and he joined in the bed love in too Grin.
I think there is actually evidence that people who have pets are less prone to asthma and allergies too, isn't there?

Inneedofbrandy · 02/10/2012 13:28

I don't understand why people have pets in the first place, let alone get into a bed that a dog slept in the 3 or 4 previous nights!

prettybird · 02/10/2012 13:33

I am a true "cat" person and while I couldn't imagine having a dog in bed but I don't like them too near me anyway , I have no problem whatsoever with cats. :)

Like Woolytights , we have two Siamese cats, one of whom, when he wants under the covers, uses a claw on my shoulder (the only time he ever unsheathes his claws with us) to say " Oi - lift up the duvet" Grin and of course I do

Finbert · 02/10/2012 13:36

I love sleeping with my cats, they are like warm, fursy, purrsy teddy bears

fossil97 · 02/10/2012 13:37

I've been sick in bed for two days and the cat has been curled up keeping me company faithfully the whole time under the duvet, I can't tell you how comforting that is. I have been a lifelong with-cat-sleeper (literally since the pram) so I guess it's what you're used to. Healthy cats are very clean.

If you find the thought disgusting it's likely you've never experienced the reality? In which case, each to their own.

Empusa · 02/10/2012 13:37

I've let all my pets snuggle up in bed with me, except the fish obviously. The rats were the snuggliest. Grin

fossil97 · 02/10/2012 13:39

Cat says that she does only reluctantly let humans share her bed.

caramelsmadfuzzytail · 02/10/2012 13:40

My dog sleeps on my bed / his bed in the summer. In the winter he sleeps under the duvet /on his bed. I live in a grade 2 listed building, which means most of my heat goes out the window. So he is a cheaper source of heat. Grin

monkeysbignuts · 02/10/2012 13:43

My bil had a really really really smelly dog that even my 5 & 3 year old used to comment on (they would call her stinky lol) & he let her sleep in his bed! No wonder he was single haha. Dog has gone to a new home now and surprise surprise he has a gf.
