I'm wondering if I am being completely over the top. I don't live in tge UK, the country where I live don't habe a whooping cough problem so they are not offering tge vaccine to pregnant women. I went ti my Dr this morning to ask him if I could have the vaccine as we plan to travel to tge UK before the baby has his 1st vaccinations (3 months here) the Dr said there is no way for me to get tge vaccination here in Sweden even privately.

I think we will just wait to come to tge UK till after the baby's first vaccinations.

My family, parents and siblings (one of my siblings is a child) are coming to visit us at christmas, the baby will be only a week or two old. My family are anti vaccinations, the sibling who is a child has not been vaccinated I'm not sure about everyone else.

I have the option of traveling to tge UK and getting the vaccine myself, this would be costly and hard work as I'm heavily pregnant.

honeytea, your thread is evolving into a Monty Python sketch :o

'Death, it's not so bad, at least you get to have a lie down.'

I've just been mooching around on the WHO website. Did you know that 800,000 people die from measles every year? That it is still the leading cause of childhood mortality? Or that 295,000 people die every year from whooping cough?

Just those 2 vaccinations alone would save the lives of over a million people. Yet those who have them handed to them on a plate turn them down because they'd rather play Russian roulette with their kids lives. Unbelievable.

It only scares idiots who choose to put their children at risk.

It wasn't intended to be nice. People who choose not to vaccinate their children against these diseases are putting their own ignorant opinions above the welfare of their children. They don't deserve nice. As far as I'm concerned, it's neglect.

ElaineBenes · 03/10/2012 16:52

Well, Leonie, you said you suspected whooping cough. Which would suggest you either didn't take her to the doctor or that you did take her to the doctor and the doctor said it isn't WC but you disagree (since you know best).

SO did you keep her in and away from other people over all the summer holidays? And the little bit that was left of school since it was two months of coughing, as you say. Since she'd be infectious you know.

I suspect she just had a normal cough but that would mean that her immune system isn't quite as robust as you like to think adn then you'd have nothing to boast about on these threads since she isn't healthier than her vaccinated peers. Oh well, sorry to burst your balloon.

monkeysbignuts · 03/10/2012 17:02

Leoni I think you will find third world countrys have a higher rate of breast feeding, bottle feeding is a luxury and expensive. breast is free and no other options.
your arguments are flawed to say the least.
I like the comparison of seat belts who ever made that! Very good analogy

honeytea · 03/10/2012 17:05

What if your child wants to visit a 3rd world country, god forbid they want to travel when they are older leonie.

If you took your DC with whooping cough to the Dr wouldn't they tell you if they had WC?

as a side I don't think many countries havent got breastfeeding

They wouldn't even need to visit a 3rd world country. They'd just have to sit in the departures lounge at Heathrow for a few hours. But as they say 'you can't argue with stupid'.

Great, I'm guessing by your evasion that means that you traipsed all over town with your dd who you thought had whooping cough but you never bothered to get it actually diagnosed. Fantastic. Very responsible beahviour.

Honeytea is right, Swedes are sensible and follow advice. Vaccination rates in Sweden are consistently at 99%. The only ones who don't are those who can't.

ElaineBenes · 03/10/2012 17:18

No, I only know what you say on here Leonie. And the picture is very worrying.
