oh you Angry Smile
I would if i could but im not heavy enough and I had blood transfusions before the cut off date MY husband and daughter gives blood so they give an extra drop for me

Mrsjay · 01/10/2012 20:34

Oh i have a donor card though

Calabria · 01/10/2012 20:39

I'm a regular donor. I couldn't give last time the van was in my area as I wasn't (in the area) and I had a foul cold. But shall be there for the next session.

Also on the organ donor register and the bone marrow one. Can't donate plasma as I have dreadful veins.

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel · 01/10/2012 20:39

Perhaps they could have a promiscuity test?

They could make you swing a sanitised cat round the waiting roo
in a circle,if it scratches more than one than three people that you've slept with in the last 3 months you probably shouldn't donate. Then they can use the recent cat scratches as a subtle way to decline the others you have slept with.

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel · 01/10/2012 20:39

Fecking phone.

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel · 01/10/2012 21:22

Oh fuck I've killed it.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 01/10/2012 21:52

Killed your phone? Or the thread?

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 01/10/2012 21:55

Am a regular donor - 3 times a year

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel · 01/10/2012 22:14

The thread.

Although I really should kill my phone.

Helenagrace · 01/10/2012 22:22

Good kick up the backside for me. I used to donate but somehow dropped off their radar. I will put it in my diary to sign up once we've moved area in December.

CommunistMoon · 01/10/2012 22:45

I'm going on Friday [preens].

PorkyandBess · 01/10/2012 23:12

I'm a regular, 3x per year.

I don't think I can spare it; the beeper goes off constantly whilst I am donating as it comes out so slowly and I have failed the copper sulphate test numerous times. But I still go!

My colleague has liver cancer and has just received 3 units. It has made her feel really well again.

And I always pick up my dog's shit.

arthurfowlersallotment · 01/10/2012 23:15

I can't at the moment as giving birth has left me anaemic. However I donated my cord blood and will be back to the bank as soon as I have decent supplies of hg again.

greenplastictrees · 01/10/2012 23:16

I gave blood one when I was 17. It all went fine until I fainted a couple of minutes later and woke up with A nurse holding my legs in the air. I never heard from them again! No idea why but it's made me very anxious about trying again because i feel like I was more hassle than help! I keep meaning to on a lunch break but I'm a bit nervous as to why they never bothered contacting me.

whatsoever · 02/10/2012 00:46

greenplastictrees I wouldn't worry about it. When I've been to donate, the nurses told me they have to keep a quick flow of donors through the day to make it worth their while so if you are a fainter who needs looking after or someone whose blood comes out very slowly, they don't really want you back.

You've done your bit, you fainted, you did your best.

BlueSuedeStiletto · 02/10/2012 01:12

I've never done it and don't know much about it. Please point me in the right direction and I promise I'll sign up Grin

Sokmonsta · 02/10/2012 07:48

Woo hoo! Babies 6 months on the dot today. Need to ring as they sent dh a letter so they're in the area.

vodkaanddietirnbru · 02/10/2012 08:16

that's what prompted me to go - a letter to dh letting him know they were in the area. Donated in the donating bus in the Asda carpark!! Was a bit afraid of fainting but was fine and had my apple and blackcurrant squash and a biscuit afterwards. Drove home not long after that too.

jasminetatu · 02/10/2012 08:21

Thanks for the push. I've never donated (not sure if I can?) but have signed up and I'm just waiting for them to respond. Does anybody know how long you have to wait after being tattooed to give blood? Also I was anaemic during pregnancy, Ds is now 18 months and I've never been tested since. Will they check everything is in order before allowing me to donate?

OrangeFireandGoldashes · 02/10/2012 08:31

I'm a fainter Sad Tried twice, fainted both times and the second time the lovely nurse told me gently but quite clearly that I was more trouble than my blood was worth (she didn't quite put it like that but that was the gist).

I am on the organ donor register though, and I've donated my body to medical science if they want it when I pop off (and assuming I don't die in a way that makes organ harvesting possible).

weegiemum · 02/10/2012 08:42

I really really value people who give blood, cos I need it.

My neuro condition can be treated (well, managed) by 2 mehthods, both of which require blood products. I get IV Immunoglobulin every 4 weeks. Every treatment contains the immune system cells of up to 50 people!

I go in to hospital every month in a wheelchair. 2 days later I walk out.

I love you all!

SheelaNeGig · 02/10/2012 08:56

Thanks all.

I feel my three times a year nagging is worth it if I can prompt even one perdon to consider it.

And Weegie - that is why I do it. A small little thing I can do to make someones life just a little bit easier.
