DS is having his first big party for his 7th birthday. It is in the half term It's a football party and the whole class plus cousins have been invited so it's for about 40 children and I was just going to fill my party bags with cheap football themed tat and birthday cake.
DH thought this was fine until today. He has been talking about it at work and thinks we should get them all better presents. He wants to but in

  • A book
  • a football
  • football card
  • a carrot sticks. A nice idea in theory but expensive and I think it's not really needed. I also think that carrot sticks are shit not going to be eaten where as the cake will be enjoyed, plus they will have enough party food so they won't need to eat the cake straight away and could take it home.

Does anyone have any ideas, before I set fire to ALL party bags.
Thanks

Check out ebay for job lots of party bag/loot/lucky dip toys. There's one seller that does 100 bits of plastic tat for about £13. You can specify boys/girls and you could also specify football themed and tell them how many kids are going. The chap is really really helpful. It works out even cheaper than Tesco, and it's SO exciting when the parcel comes (I was so childish when ours came).

I'm feeling a bit fainty at the thought of 40 party bags though, even at £1 a bag. Gulp.

carrot sticks??? its a fecking party bag not a nose bag for a donkey

Can I nominate this for post of the week?

I am hoping it is going to be in tomorrows round up Grin

Justhadenough · 27/09/2012 18:37

Thanks for all the helpful tips Grin
I have just showed this to DH and he admits that kids may not appreciate his carrots.
He is now trying to come up with more ideas. Hmm

Morrisons have football themed party bag fillers which work out at 50p per head

schmoz · 27/09/2012 21:38

I found this thread because I'm having the usual party bag angst...ie don't want to, everyone hates them, but will everyone hate my kid if they get a book or something instead??

But carrot sticks made me laugh out loud. TOO funny. You should let the DH do it and make him hand them out.

mrsscoob · 27/09/2012 22:01

Haha yea maybe he could hand them out dressed as a carrot, that would be hilarious

Noqontrol · 27/09/2012 22:18

Oh yes, fab idea, dressed as a carrot. I would let dh do the carrot sticks as long as he dresses up too.

stealthsquiggle · 27/09/2012 22:21

I can't believe OP's DH is 'trying to come up with more ideas' - none of the ideas on here stupid good enough for him, then Hmm?

zipzap · 27/09/2012 22:31

I think you should get dh to make a big bowl of carrot sticks and a big bowl of haribo/fun size bars/whatever confectionery your ds loves and wants to hand out.

He should offer them to everybody - and see exactly how many carrots are left at the end of it

(having said that I have one ds who would take carrots over cake every time, so I reckon some carrots will go - just not all of them Grin)

BlackholesAndRevelations · 27/09/2012 22:38

Haven't read the whole thing but had to mention that squeakytoy's "nose bag for a donkey" comment made me pee myself laughing and wake up Dp Grin ps I forgot to hand out half oft party bags as the guests left at different times- oh well!

fluffymummy108 · 27/09/2012 22:58

Carrot sticks are only acceptable in cases where bunny rabbit is also included!
Football OR party bag with cake , chockie treat , balloon , bouncy ball thats it!
Nobody will complain! Mainly they are just glad that DC was invited......

ladymariner · 27/09/2012 23:13

When ds was younger we used to gather, polish and thread a load of conkers and put them in the party bags along with sweets and a slice of birthday cake.....the kids loved them. (safety goggles not provided Grin )

I always did party bags or boxes and they always went down well. I bought sweets every so often that were on offer and put them away. Also things like bags of mini cookies or animal biscuits, again when on offer. Same as a mini roll or similar. The bags were full but it was stuff that was all bogof or half price. Never bothered really with toys or pencils etc as they all seem to like the sweetie stuff. Are you having party games with prizes? One party dd had was when she was 5 and it was bouncy castle and games. So a pass the parcel prize was needed which would have been a large bag of sweets. Same as musical chairs etc. Another party was at a bowling place. Again i did prizes (yes i am too soft etc and also mad) for best bowler boy and girl. Boy had something like a light up yoyo and sweets and girl had something pretty and sweets. Apparently dd's parties were the best. I wonder why? Good luck with it all.
