To have given this elderly man the dirtiest look I could have ever given?

Was in the supermarket with my DS and I went over to get some apples, I had to wait a couple of minutes as an elderly man was standing in the way. I started to play peek-a-boo with DS and when I looked up the man done a massive sneeze and snot flew all over the apples that I had my eye on.

I found it repulsive; He went to walk away and glanced at me and I shot him the dirtiest look that I could muster.

Just to clarify, We have an apple free house at the moment.

I am trying to care but I can't quite process what his age had to do with anything?

Would you have reacted differently if he had been young?

Misunderstood48 · 26/09/2012 15:11

Whether he was young, middle aged or elderly it wouldn't have mattered, I was telling it as it was.

Because of course elderly people always do disgusting things. Hmm

threeorangesocksmorganisagirl · 26/09/2012 15:13

nods along with Seeker

RaisinDEtre · 26/09/2012 15:13

It's the ageist in you that's making you miss Paggy's point I feel

WithoutCaution · 26/09/2012 15:14

Couldn't you have chosen a bag of apples instead of loose ones Confused

Pagwatch · 26/09/2012 15:14

[shrugs]

I just don't see why his age is relevant.
Except that people are always quite keen to be rude about elderly people on here.

Pagwatch · 26/09/2012 15:16

I like 'Miss Paggy'. It sounds like a character in Gone With The Wind

Misunderstood48 · 26/09/2012 15:19

Looks like people on MN are looking to start arguements lately Hmm As i said i am not ageist at all.

If he was young i would have said teenager.

If he was middle aged i would have said middle aged man.

As he was elderly i said elderly.

Age is not relevant, I am telling it as i saw it.

*Some people.

I think OP was just describing the man. I didn't read and think it was ageist at all. Shame we have to be so careful using harmless adjectives when posting.

EarnestDullard · 26/09/2012 15:24

I think the OP was just being descriptive. I agree there's often a degree of ageism on here but it's not like she called him a "filthy old codger" or something. Technically the fact that he was man is irrelevant, the fact that it was apples and not a different fruit is irrelevant. I don't think the OP meant anything by it.

maresedotes · 26/09/2012 15:26

Sometimes people sneeze and can't get to their hanky in time. Small children usually biggest offenders. Not pleasant but equally not pleasant giving someone a dirty look.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 26/09/2012 15:27

FFS, she was just setting the scene.

Whatever the age/gender/anything else, that is basically rank, OP, and I don't blame you for getting your apples elsewhere. Good job you were there to see the snotting though. Poor whoever came up after you and bought the snotty apples. Grin

Pagwatch · 26/09/2012 15:29

Fair enough EarnestDullard.

Pagwatch · 26/09/2012 15:32

Arf at indignation about people wanting to start arguments whilst posting in aibu
Grin

Op . You asked if you were being unreasonable. I was trying to figure it out.

At least your thread is marginally more interesting now than 'man sneezed on fruit - shocker'

thefirstmrsrochester · 26/09/2012 15:33

Agree with you mares. Yuk but it won't have been deliberate.

Nancy66 · 26/09/2012 15:34

...and why no mention of bananas?

Is it because apples are English?

Are you racist OP?

threeorangesocksmorganisagirl · 26/09/2012 15:34

at least the op didn't call him a young girl

SoupDragon · 26/09/2012 15:34

I like 'Miss Paggy'. It sounds like a character in Gone With The Wind

It's only one letter different from Miss Piggy though.

Just saying...

gordyslovesheep · 26/09/2012 15:36

Snort! I will call you 'Great Aunt Paggy Pat' Paggy - it's so GWTW

Misunderstood48 · 26/09/2012 15:37

Earnestdullard Thank you, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Maresedotes I didn't think about that, I did just catch him doing it so it could have been the case.

Pagwatch Thank you for proving my point beautifully.

Miss Piggy!

All the worse after the kermit joke the other day....

Great Aunt PaggyPat would get the vapours a lot.

Pagwatch · 26/09/2012 15:38

Happy to help Op.
I'm here all week.

Tiredmumno1 · 26/09/2012 15:40

OP it is disgusting, did he even try to turn his head away from the apples, yucky yuck yuck.
