I mean, I get the appeal of a bit of outrage, it's always fun to work yourself up into an indignant fury, but...

Surely you just run the risk of looking a bit of a twat if you haven't actually got reality the facts on your side?

Twitter, much as I love it, does seem to fuel this kind of lunacy. Suddenly everyone is tweeting and sharing horror stories. Which is crazy enough, but usually people have got so much on their high horse that they daren't admit they were wrong, so it just runs and runs. And it could all be so easily avoided if people bothered to just check facts first.

I can see private messages I have received on my FB timeline, I can see private messages I've sent on friends' timelines. These are facts. Perhaps you need to check yours?

I looked on my timeline from 2009 and on there was one side of an exchange of messages I had with my husbands ex wife. They were (luckily) amicable, but they were most certainly a private message conversation that we had. I logged in as my husband, and could go onto my own timeline and see them.

yep, they were definately inbox messages. I remember the conversation at the time, and it was absolutely private. I havent been friends on FB with her for the last 3 years either. We defriended each other not long after those messages.

So it really isnt an urban myth about this.

They would have been in my inbox at one time, but I know I deleted them.. or thought I had!

I have in-box messages now showing on timeline. Not that worried because they are all innocent, but they are definately there - including one from DHs cousin accusing me of being 'snobby' - and that was definately a private convo.

It's probably from when FB privacy wasn't taken as seriously - I know I didn't change my privacy settings until prob 2010 because I didn't really understand it. They are now showing because my FB was open to anyone back then.

I checked my fb tonight and seen pm's had been posted on my wall.

There was other old stuff on there that was wall to wall convo. But because of who this was with, and what it was about, I know it was said in private.

Definately a glitch though, and also definately not there a few days ago, because I was looking back through that time to try and find something as it was just after my mum had died, and I had hoped to find somthing that I thought was there (it wasnt).

To be fair, I wasn't just talking about the FB thing. I've noticed it a lot, someone says something (usually in a tweet) and people take it as absolute proof without ever actually checking. It's all a bit unnecessary really.

I'm not outraged, just a bit saddened as I read a pm sent to me as my brother was dying. Definitely private at the time.
