If I don't play the childrens song CD he bought for DS, for use in my car, he's hardly ever in my car with us and what is wrong with my choice in music?

Is he trying to drive me mad? Does he secretly hate me? Do I really need to listen to the wheels on the bus or any other insanely annoying songs while DS either sleeps or chatters?

Don't want DS to grow up thinking that he controls the music in my car.

yanbu unless your ds is the driver

Toombs · 21/09/2012 20:44

YANBU, songs from the eighties and mamma mia work just as well, my two dd (8 & 5) know all the words to video killed the radio star.

Softlysoftly · 21/09/2012 20:45

Yanbu my DD asked me to put the "lady singing" on yesterday, once I'd worked it out she sang all the words to "safe and sound" from hunger games :)

Kids can appreciate adult music

Though I think that means my rage against the machine days are over, don't fancy "fuck you I won't do watcha tell me" sung at preschool [confuced]

Softlysoftly · 21/09/2012 20:45

Ha confuced! Clearly not what I meant!

AgentZigzag · 21/09/2012 20:46

Both ours (2 and 11) love Pink Floyd, there's no need to torture yourself Smile

Yes, put it in your DHs car.

Or leave him?

Either really.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 21/09/2012 20:46

YABU, he bought it because he cares about your DS' development and you should be grateful. It is so important for his language development to have familiar songs. Is it really that much to ask to sing to your baby? :(

:o

AgentZigzag · 21/09/2012 20:47

Love rage against the machine, and don't play it for same reason Grin

Foo fighters aren't sweary though.

TheCalmingManatee · 21/09/2012 20:48

Leave the bastard - he is sooooo controlling Hmm

Oh and what slightlysuperiorpeasant said

Softlysoftly · 21/09/2012 20:48

But surely any song can become familiar? Why does it have to be nursery rhymes?

If you make Bob Dillon or Marley the song of choice they are getting a good political foundation at the same time :)

Mrsjay · 21/09/2012 20:49

YANBU when dd1 was small we had an ELC tape I frickin hated it drove me mental and the woman who sang thought she was lesley garrat ( maybe it was Lesley garrat) was operatic nursery rhymes !. DD2 never got 1 Grin

WithoutCaution · 21/09/2012 20:50

Have you heard me singing? I'm doing DS a favour by sparing him the horrors.

I do sing some childrens song to him when no one else is in earshot but would rather not be forced to listen to it over and over again. I may be convinced to have a disney CD on in the car though Smile

My 4 yr old is currenly in the middle of a Bruce Springsteen obsession so I love driving with him. Have had to put my Prince cds aside for a while though.

AgentZigzag · 21/09/2012 20:51

'Have had to put my Prince cds aside for a while though. '

He's done you a favour chinam Wink

Nagoo · 21/09/2012 20:52

My DC constantly request and the Batman theme by The Jam Grin

It's a close as they are going to get to kids music Grin

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 21/09/2012 20:53

It is so important for his language development to have familiar songs Genuine although slightly pfb question: are we supposed to be playing the same music over and over to our children?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 21/09/2012 20:53

Ds1's (6) favourite at the moment is sister sledge, we are family!

Ds2 (4) is to abba!

I think a wide and varied musical upbringing is vair important!

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 21/09/2012 20:53

Disney CDs are excellent but you're depriving yourself of the feeling of outraged indignation when the leader at rhyme time sings the wrong words Angry There should be a British Standard for nursery rhymes.

WithoutCaution · 21/09/2012 20:53

DH is soooo excited about it though... The bastard

BertieBotts · 21/09/2012 20:54

Grin I'm sure he meant well!

Yes put it in his car.

SlightlySuperiorPeasant · 21/09/2012 20:54

ATruth I just made that up. It sounds good though.

AgentZigzag · 21/09/2012 20:55

'There should be a British Standard for nursery rhymes'

That campaign would get a lot of support I think Grin

harbingerofdoom · 21/09/2012 20:55

Didn't matter what I put on, within minutes they would be asleep. So a trip to the supermarket or 2 hour journey made no difference.

Never did try full volume heavy metal tho'. I'll leave that to someone else.

Now 19 and 20 and the sleeping is wierd.

Socknickingpixie · 21/09/2012 20:56

my 5yo god daughters currently have a dolly parton thing going on and my kids are liking elvis

ATruthUniversallyAcknowledged · 21/09/2012 20:57
