To think that DH won't notice...?

If I don't play the childrens song CD he bought for DS, for use in my car, he's hardly ever in my car with us and what is wrong with my choice in music?

Is he trying to drive me mad? Does he secretly hate me? Do I really need to listen to the wheels on the bus or any other insanely annoying songs while DS either sleeps or chatters?

Don't want DS to grow up thinking that he controls the music in my car.

We had fun song factory when DD was a small child. If I never hear creepy Ian sing wind the bobbin up again, it will be too soon.
DD is a lover of Johnny Cash. Ring of fire and Drunken Ira Hayes are favorites. Currently, she is listening to Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry. Although someone called Psy is doing a KPop song which is very popular here too.

You are soooo right! DS (4) now really moans about Radio 3.

However, he does consent to listen to "Peter and the Wolf", which is a story as well as music, and my judgypants comments about other socalled road users, from which he is definitely learning points 1 and 2 of SligtlySuperiorPeasant's list, to wit:

  1. learn the intonation patterns of a language:
  2. learn new words and concepts

My poor children are deprived as I do not have a radio in the car, never mind a cd player.

I remember being in my sister's car about a million years ago when my niece was 2 or 3. I rolled my eyes heavenwards when she insisted on 'my music please mummy' as I was dreading tinny tinkly nursery rhymes. It was The Beatles Grin

YADNBU! Children's music is the work of the devil.

Just play them the music you like. Indoctrination can never start too young IMO.

DS (7) has never had "nursery rhyme" CDs or children's music. He likes Laura Marling and Motörhead Grin

If you want your kids to enjoy music you're better off playing them music you love. They're more likely to pick up on your enthusiasm when you're singing along dramatically and happily rather than rolling your eyes to something you hate.

So yes, bin the CD! Grin

It's my job to persuade people to interact with their children, for all the reasons outlined above, to sing nursery rhymes with them and read to them. But those CDs are torture of the highest order, I wouldn't have one any where near the house.

If you want child-friendly but credible music try Hullaballoo
They're funny, and listenable and probably won't drive you too mad.

InvisibleHotPinkWeasel · 23/09/2012 10:55

Have you considered putting it in the cd player in dh's car and using superglue to seal shut the cd player?

milkymocha · 23/09/2012 11:12

DS1 is a BIG foo fighter fan and loves Blink182.

DS2 seems to like placebo and snow patrol.

Perfectly suited to both their personalities actually Grin
