To be scared of getting a job in case I'm worse off?

BenefitScrounger · 21/09/2012 11:50

NC and prepared for a flaming.

I've been claiming JSA for over two years now and am on the Work Programme. I have no qualifications and all I could get (I think) is a minimum wage job. I have been lying about my attempts to get work because I think I am better off out of work.

At the moment I get full housing benefit plus council tax, free dental care/prescriptions (if I need them) and £71 a week to live on. My bills aren't covered obviously, but they're not huge, and I have lots of free time to indulge hobbies etc.. I don't feel the need to buy stuff very often as I'm not into fashion/beauty and I eat cheaply. I can afford to eat out once a week with a TasteCard. The only thing I miss is holidays abroad but I'm not sure I would be able to afford them if I got a job anyway.

If I got a full time minimum wage job, would I be worse off? Just thinking of travel expenses, student loan repayment and time lost - not sure if I would still get any council tax benefit?

Has anyone had experience of this? By the way, I'm childless and live alone.

lol at pointy and the madness of that TV programme. Grin

Poor thick poodles.

If the OP was genuine wouldn't she be all' what the fuck are you lot doing talking about poodles, piss off'

Bullshit.

BenefitScrounger · 21/09/2012 14:09

But I CAN work. I just can't keep it going.

I like the thread though as people irl are very kind to me and you've all been... anonymous!

I like poodles. My ex landlord had a toy poodle. I'm not allowed pets where I am now (I know, whaaaa), so I'm happy to hear about them.

butisthismyname · 21/09/2012 14:10

so you do volunteer work then?

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 14:10

Oh congrats

UnChartered · 21/09/2012 14:11

am really lolling out loud at the RL test on poodles Grin

bless them

they don't moult either do they?

TheGoldenKnid · 21/09/2012 14:11

This must be the first 'benefits thread' which ended up with talk about dogs rather than goats. Grin

What's wrong with goats? Won't anybody think of the poor goats? :(

hzgreen · 21/09/2012 14:12

i saw that too pointybird, it was really sweet and i thought it was just the poodle being well behaved because it's owner had told it to "stay". didn't the owner have to remove the blanket in the end?

i did and IQ test on my cat a while back and it turns out he's genius!

Miltonia · 21/09/2012 14:12

What do you mean when you say you go weird once a month?

BenefitScrounger · 21/09/2012 14:12

Yes I do some volunteer work but not in the field I want to do it in (women's sector).

But since the OU says I can get funding, maybe I can get funding to train in that. Will look into it.

UnChartered · 21/09/2012 14:12

goats are sooooo last month

dawgs is where it's at

UnChartered · 21/09/2012 14:13

i get the feeling the OP wants us to ask more about her desire to work in the (women's sector)

who's going to do it?

BenefitScrounger · 21/09/2012 14:14

I go weird as in I can't go out, but mostly I can so I don't get any help for this. I was referred once to a psychiatric hospital but couldn't go out for the appointment! So they no longer refer me as they don't believe me.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 21/09/2012 14:15

Yes, I'm wondering why you go weird once a month too - are you are werewolf? Maybe you could get a job working for a security firm.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 21/09/2012 14:16

Anyway, back to the dogs - DH grew up with a beagle. Apparently she was lovely but very energetic and vocal. Personally, I don't think you can beat a good lurcher.

Floggingmolly · 21/09/2012 14:16

Can you go out to collect your benefits op, or does that make you go weird too?

Latonia · 21/09/2012 14:17

OP, have a Biscuit You make me sick. Get off your lazy backside and get work. I don't believe that the Job Centre never asks for proof of jobs for which you have applied.

I was made redundant at 48 and had to claim unemployment benefit - I found temporary work which turned into permanent - at half the salary I was previously earning. But I took any training going which increased my salary over time.

I hope your JSA is stopped soon - starve, I don't care, one less scounger on tax payers.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 14:17

Perhaps she wants to work in a tampon factory.

Who knows? Who cares?

I love the fact that the poodle was so good it just sat there with a blanket on its head like a criminal escorted from a black maria.

I had a border collie when I was a kid. It was cleverer than me and INSANE to boot.

BenefitScrounger · 21/09/2012 14:18

You don't have to ask me, and I don't need to tell, but I mean working within rape crisis centres. I don't have the relevant qualifications to do it and the training courses are expensive.

But I might be able to get funding while on JSA so will look. I don't think I could afford it working in a bar. Might be wrong.

DF had a dog that was intent on lying next to the fire it would lie and cry when the sparks jumped out and burn it's fur Shock

but not move

some humans have this stoicism too

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 14:18

An agoraphobic with a Taste Card with an interest in womens bits.

You couldn't make it up.

Oh hang about...

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 21/09/2012 14:19

lol at the dog who was so determined to get in front of the fire despite burns.

My collie was like this - I would be sprawled in front of the fire and then it would come along and trample on me and get in front of me in determination to be in the warmest part of a freezing house.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 21/09/2012 14:20

My current dog is a border collie cross - he is very intelligent, and also completely barmy. Also an excellent climber, can't be left in the garden cause he scrambles over the gate and goes to visit his friends.

BenefitScrounger · 21/09/2012 14:20

Ha, the weirdness has only coincided once with benefit signing. I lost money for two weeks.

But in jobs where I'm there everyday, the weirdness is a factor in me losing them.

pointybird · 21/09/2012 14:21

I'm going to put a blanket on my Jack Russell's head when I get home from work
