By help I meant more the police taking him seriously and following up Shirty, although I am aware sometimes there are not as supportive of women as they should be. But in terms of charity why should a domestic violence charity only aim to help one gender? You wouldn't find Marie Curie only helping one?

I think within society there is still the view that men aren't victims of domestic violence or that if they ask for help they're weak and not "real men". Only going from my very limited experience with my friend here but until the view of men and dv changes you'll find them shy asking for help outside of police and hospital.

I could set up a charity for DV, I could set one up for the type of cancer that killed my dad, or one for homeless people in my area after we nearly lost our home, or one for the abandoned pets we take in. Yes anyone could set one up, whether someone would have the time to run one in every aspect of life they feel there isn't appropriate services for is another issue.

Well I was under the impression that the police do take DV against men seriously. I mean, we've only got to go back 20 years really to see that the police didn't take DV against women seriously back then - and really when we still have the appalling and shocking statistic of 2 women per week being murdered by the partners I guess one could make the argument that DV is STILL not taken seriously enough.

Rape crisis and Women's Aid (clue is in the name! ) were set up to help women as they are the majority victims of these crimes. I'm a bit baffled as to why these places who have this remit should now (even though they are struggling as it ias) include men.

Why? Why can't someone set up a charity for male victims? I donate to women's aid and rape crisis primarily because they are female orientated. I'm sure men would LOVE to give shitloads of cash to a men's rape crisis or Man Aid if someone set one up.
