"I'm not a feminist"

"oh, I'm so much less of a feminist than you are"

"I'm so not a femynyst I don't even know how to spell it"

If a woman is over 20 and refers to herself as a girl even in casual old chit chat, I still go hmmm to myself. Perhaps just

DameAbsy · 21/09/2012 15:42

And that is why, sometimes, it is not a good idea for people in a non historically oppressed group shouldn't comment on the shizzle people in a historically oppressed group have to put up with.

That was probably (I imagine) a one off incident, and was done with affection. I can pretty much bet you've never experienced some of the stuff that I will list later. The thingy I refer to up there, was some douchebag getting offended that we did not agree to his "genius" plan, so instead of coming up with a valid argument or just dealing with it, infantalised it and implied that we were unprofessional. But, that wasn't a one off sadly. It happens all the time and all the time being a women you have to put up with crap like
being groped,
whistled at,
leared at,
being overlooked for promotion because of your sexual organs,
being paid less,

being expected to deal with all the domestic tasks,
be questioned about your fertility
worrying about whether or not choosing to have children will kill off your career and your body
be denied drugs/medical assistance because your condition is "natural".
Nope, I can pretty much bet you've never dealt with any of that.

who are the sexist cunts they know?

PunkInDublic · 21/09/2012 15:43

So, how about.

"She said I was a stupid boy and that I couldn't do more than one thing at once, so I flicked her nipple."

Sexual assault surely?

seeker · 21/09/2012 15:43

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 15:44

thud to punk not seeker

SuePurblybilt · 21/09/2012 15:45

I KNOW Punk, I do. But something about the phrasing of that post killed me and Shirls reminded me of it.

S'all very wrong indeed .

DameBossOfMe · 21/09/2012 15:46

You're right hully it's not funny, it's fucking sad that calling yourself a feminist is akin in some circles to standing up and saying youre sexist, racist etc

sometimes I wish I still drank so I could have a stiff G&T right now.

PunkInDublic · 21/09/2012 15:46

I don't see how physically hurting someone because of what they've said is funny at all. You can wail about how it's the big man menz coming to get you all you like, but fuck that, I want to be treated the same as a man, therefore I treat the same.

atacareercrossroads · 21/09/2012 15:47

Ahhh come now, is it a bit of jealousy because you old crones cant get away with calling yourselves girls anymore?

SuePurblybilt · 21/09/2012 15:49

Not at all. Paggy is pert.

atacareercrossroads · 21/09/2012 15:49
  1. A female child.
  2. A daughter: our youngest girl.
  3. Often Offensive A woman, especially a young woman.
  4. Informal
a. A woman socializing in a group of women: a night out with the girls. b. Used as a familiar form of address to express support of or camaraderie with a woman.
  1. Informal A female sweetheart: cadets escorting their girls to the ball.
  2. Offensive A female servant or employee.

Ok

1 - check
2 - check
3 - mmm whatevs
4 - Check
5 - no experience of cadets so cannot confirm nor deny
6 - never been a servent so cannot confirm nor deny

So yes, the dictionary does seem to agree with me.

ShirtyKnot · 21/09/2012 15:50

My vagina is feeling angsty.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 15:50

But but but

What is good about calling oneself a girl?

Why are you buying into youth being the Holy Grail?

Sue I know what you meant and how you meant it. But it's being twisted. I'm ashamed of this thread, I know a man who suffered domestic violence and he suffered the same as any women, it's not about what happened 50 years ago to him. Fuck historical oppression. He needed help and got none.

Anyone suffering domestic violence deserves a voice and help, not to have to fight for it because we did. That's like saying all women who were victims before we got equal rights deserved it, as they didn't fight for it hard enough. Men are fighting for help, they're not being heard though.

Hullygully · 21/09/2012 15:52

Yeah Sue

You uncaring scumbag

Everything is your fault.

SuePurblybilt · 21/09/2012 15:53

So your dictionary definition acknowledges that girl is often offensive, particularly to employees?
Or am I reading your post wrong?

PunkInDublic · 21/09/2012 15:53

It's Vagina Hully, don't you think vagine is rather childish? Belittling? Are you scared to call it what it is?

Or maybe it's yours and you can call it what you want, ay?
