to be fed up with the difference between boys and girls clothes

ive given up shopping for dd2 (2 year old) in the girls section; i want comfy warm durable soft trousers and tops--abundant in the boys section-joggers and trousers with cuffed bottoms; girls trousers either thin cotton/boot leg/stiff jeans or leggings..in sickly colours. Got packs of good quality thick cotton t-shirts in bright vibrant colours in boys section, instead of flimsy sparkly crap in girls section

DD1 is 8 year old....so likes flimsy sparkly crap...BUT I have the same problem in looking for decent sports wear. We always end up in the boys section for decent (not sweatshirt material) trousers and the cheaper tops that arent going to make her roast

Grrrrrr

I have a boy and a girl. Girl is 8 and I haven't had this problem. Especially with shoes. Dd has some brogue type for school, a few pairs of trainers and best shoes and boots. No Mary Jane type.

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:25

where do you shop lydias???

Lambzig · 19/09/2012 19:25

where are you shopping? I have always found great stuff for DD and am struggling to find anything nice for imminent DS.

Inneedofbrandy · 19/09/2012 19:27

I always wonder when posters come with this, Where Do You Shop!?! I have never had this problem, in fact Iv'e just ordered a few jumpers from H&M can't link but its the same jumper in "boys" and "girls" colours.

IvorHughJanus · 19/09/2012 19:27

I've always found the selection for girls - especially in regard to shoes but certainly clothes in general - to be so much bigger and more various in most shops than those for boys. It really pisses me off. But I do tend to be attracted to the flimsy sparkly crap...

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:27

haha...now im going to get a roasting! Grin....i am looking in Asda /Next/ Primark mostly;

sports clothes-JJB Sports, Sports Direct and similar

Shoes....Clarks and Start Rite

'more various'? I'm not even sure what I was trying to say. Ignore that please. It's dreadful. Blush

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:29

brandy i did get good clothes in H&M actually.....but looked recently...just a wall of flimsy crap

Sainsburys, Tesco, Next, M&Co.

Much as I love Primark, isn't everything in there flimsy? I've never owned something from there that has lasted more than a few months.

5inthebed · 19/09/2012 19:30

Ah x posted. I love H&M for boys clothes and buy my nieces clothes from there, surprised you couldnt find anything suitable.

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:31

maybe ill look at H&M on-line

but i like cheap quick shopping--i dont want to have to hunt down just, what i consider, simple basic staples...

i love the choice for girls! h&m, sainsbury, gap, m&s, boden, boots, lindex online etc sooo much nice stuff for girls! For shoes i go to an independent shoe shop, my 21mth old has a pair of ecco shoes, prope shoes, hard wearing etc.

Its harder to buy clothes for boys ime.

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:33

pombears ive got clothes from Primark, Ive had over 10 years!

flimsy as in not warm though, it doesnt matter i suppose if it only lasts months with dd2 as she is growing so fast. But I need it to withstand tearing round the park/rolling around/climbing etc etc

QuangleWangleQuee · 19/09/2012 19:34

What about buying navy joggers? Next always do them and maybe M&S too. You can buy thick warm ones and they don't show mud stains. Or jeans. That's what my girls have always worn when it's muddy. You can buy plain t shirts from M&S and Next too.

5madthings · 19/09/2012 19:34

Yes m&co do nice bits and tesco can be ok .lindex online is good. Debenhams in the sales is nice, ditto frugi sale items.

monsterchild · 19/09/2012 19:36

I am expecting my first, and I dread dealing with the huge division between boys and girls clothes! granted I grew up wearing hand-me-downs from my brothers, (in the era of tube socks, no less). I don't have a burning need to advertise my kid's sex to the world, just have nice, hardy clothes!

Ugh!

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:37

quangle thats what ive done, this last shopping trip; a bunch of boys trousers and i might put a 'girly' top with them if I get fed-up with people calling her 'he' Smile

but even boys jeans are better....softer and baggier with elasticated waists. Girls are stiff straight/boot leg with button/flies-just not as comfortable as the boys. I think the comfort is important for being stuck in a car seat/ falling asleep/ climbing...?

Go back and look at H&M online again, had their new winter cat come through today, and loads of jumpers and knit wear and jumper dresses.

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:38

ill have a look at tshirts in Next, cheers

QuangleWangleQuee · 19/09/2012 19:39

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 19:39
