to be fed up with the difference between boys and girls clothes

ive given up shopping for dd2 (2 year old) in the girls section; i want comfy warm durable soft trousers and tops--abundant in the boys section-joggers and trousers with cuffed bottoms; girls trousers either thin cotton/boot leg/stiff jeans or leggings..in sickly colours. Got packs of good quality thick cotton t-shirts in bright vibrant colours in boys section, instead of flimsy sparkly crap in girls section

DD1 is 8 year old....so likes flimsy sparkly crap...BUT I have the same problem in looking for decent sports wear. We always end up in the boys section for decent (not sweatshirt material) trousers and the cheaper tops that arent going to make her roast

Grrrrrr

Jojomamam bebe do nice leggings; jogging bottom style trousers that are warm.and well made. you can get 10%off and free delivert with a code from mnet offets as well.

Tiggles · 19/09/2012 22:51

Was going to start a similar thread, but about boys not having 'animal' clothing! DS3 is really really into horses, can I get anything horsey that isn't pink and girl's pony?? Would be glad to be told IABU and there are loads of boy horse tops (and pyjamas) at a particular shop, preferably online as I live in the back of beyond.

andallthatjargon · 19/09/2012 22:56

we used to buy boys camos etc for DD1?

Melpomene · 19/09/2012 23:13

LittleMissGreen, how about these pyjamas?

They also do a cute bear design for boys.

MrDobalina · 19/09/2012 23:15

how do people find these things?! Confused

maybe that is my problem...i dont have the time or the inclination to seek exactly what i want...

Ooh thank you, they would probably be the most expensive pjs I have ever bought, but as they will be for Christmas and he would love them...
Thanks!

5madthings · 19/09/2012 23:24

m and co have some jeans with elatic waist band a nice thick material one and they are elasticated at the bottom and loose fit etc, they have a bit of embroidery on them but are similar to the ones i got from h&m except they h&m ones are plain.

i dont find it hard to find nice girls clothes, but i dont mind browsing and some shops ie h&m can be hit and miss ie sometimes there is nothing and other times they have loads of nice bits.

DoubleYew · 19/09/2012 23:24

LittleMissGreen, I have a similar issue with a cat loving ds. His dad claimed I was harming him by getting a t-shirt that was a bit pink and involved some glittery on the massive cat face.

Tiggles · 19/09/2012 23:27

DS2 is cat mad, he has loads of the furreal cats of various sizes, but never managed to get him boyish cat clothes either :(

Liketochat1 · 19/09/2012 23:32

Gosh there's tons of stuff for girls out there. Never had a problem shopping for dd.

Sirzy · 20/09/2012 07:03

In most places girls clothes seem to be taking over the childrens area. If asda carry on as they are they will have no boys clothes in the next few months.

Trying to find bright cheerful clothes for DS drives me mad. I don't want character tops or dinosaurs I just want bright and colourful cheap clothes!

goldenlula · 20/09/2012 07:37

I definitely prefer shopping for dd than my 2 ds'. There is far more choice. I remember when ds1 was small and I wanted a raincoat. Went to woolworths, nothing, went to and they had a free standing display unit full of girls raincoats, at least 6 different designs (Fifi, flowers ect). No sign of a boys display so I asked. They reached behind some other clothes and pulled out a camo one that I didn't like for my 1 year old. Then they reached behind another rack of clothing and pulled out a car design one. it was ridiculous, why so many girls ones on a display unit and the boys ons hidden away? Do boys not need raincoats?

QuangleWangleQuee · 20/09/2012 10:05

I miss Woolworths. Sad

Theas18 · 20/09/2012 10:18

Hee hee!
Got round this by having a girl then a boy...didn't buy anything from the girls section for non school clothes from about 3 till age 9 so our could be handed down lol (she die have dresses and sparkly bit sees presents though so she wasn't terribly deprived)

wheredidiputit · 20/09/2012 11:27

Quangle

You can still get Woolworth's clothes online.

Prarieflower · 20/09/2012 11:30

Never had a problem for dd,there is masses of stuff out there.

Now the dtwin boys that's a whole other problem if you don't like kahki and want your boys to look like little boys instead of mini street hoodlums.

QuangleWangleQuee · 20/09/2012 11:31

I know, but I miss the actual shop. I liked that there were so many different things in the same shop. Gardening stuff, kids clothes and fancy dress, music, pick n mix, towels, crockery, Easter eggs, hardware, paint, christmas decs. [whistful]

BertieBotts · 20/09/2012 11:33

I came to recommend Sainsbury's too - just got DS a load of clothes from there and most of them are gender neutral.

I find that most clothes in the boys' section are gender neutral, whereas girls' clothes are very girly. If you mix and match the boys' and girls' clothes you can get a nice balance.

margerykemp · 20/09/2012 11:36

I hear you.

I shop in the boys section for DD too.

It is impossible to get flipping jeans that dont have some pink edging or somesuch. It is ridiculous.

Whatever happened to primary colours for all?

delightfullyfragrant · 20/09/2012 13:06

thread started about this last week

halcyondays · 20/09/2012 13:17

I've never had a problem finding girls' joggers or other warm clothes. Places like Teaco, Next Nd Asda do them.

Roundandroundthemulberrybush · 20/09/2012 13:48

I definitely disagree, I find it almost impossible to find decent boys clothes but find more than I cold possibly buy for my tomboy girl. There is loads in H&M and Gap is always good for staples. I buy the same every season as staples, £5.99 H&M jeans so it doesn't matter if they get wrecked, a few of the 2 packs of H&M long sleeve tops in brights and stripes, a pair of tracksuit trousers, a couple of hoodies, usually in a GAP 30% off, some nice trainers without lights usually go for the plain White leather tennis shoe style in sports direct and that sees her through for everyday. I do top up with some other lovely bits but those are the staples.

OhTheConfusion · 20/09/2012 13:55

I ordered DD(1) some bright and cosy staples from Zulily recently but you need to check what they are stocking each week.

TheBigJessie · 20/09/2012 14:02

Girls' shoes annoy me in Clarks. Sometimes it seems as if none of them are suitable for a chilly day.

Boys' shoes annoy me in clarks, because boys only get blue and brown. And with every shoe size up, they get uglier.

TheBigJessie · 20/09/2012 14:05

I think these are nice. here

Four pack of t-shirts from M&S.
