adults in schoolwear shop

or rather is hubby? He runs a schoolwear shop which is used a fair deal by kids at the local schools and independants as well. Recently he he received an email supposedly from an adult asking to come in and try on a uniform and buy (full blazer, jumper, skirt getup). First time he ignored, emailed again and he politely said they only have childrens sizes. He just doesn't think its appropriate and also unhygenic if an adult trys on stuff that later goes to a child. Why would an adult want a real school uniform?

Clearly I'm unusual here but actually if I was buying school uniform for my children I would NOT want there to be adults in the shop buying the same uniform for sexual fetish purposes.

ClippedPhoenix · 19/09/2012 14:52

I'm with Tunip on this one.

CaptainHetty · 19/09/2012 14:53

Oh no sorry, I was referring to a post upthread somewhere that said 'YANBU, the guy is of dubious morality'.

It could be someone going to a fancy dress party, I thought the assumption that a) the customer is male and b) must be of dubious morality was a bit unfair. I own a school uniform, I wore it once to a fancy dress party. I hope the place I bought it from didn't think I was of dubious morality :o

squeakytoy · 19/09/2012 14:53

Grin why though... why on earth would it bother you??

squeakytoy · 19/09/2012 14:56

Put it this way... do you ask people at the veg aisle in the supermarket exactly what they are intending to do with that cucumber Tunip.. ? Or the man who is buying baby oil?

TheBigJessie · 19/09/2012 14:56

Well, it could make for awkward discussions, I suppose.

"Mummy, isn't s/he too old to go to school?"

Or you'd worry whether the odd person over there was looking at your own child sexually.

ClippedPhoenix · 19/09/2012 15:00

Not sure why it would bother me really, it just would. Maybe I have a smutty mind and would automatically assume it was going to be used for kinky reasons which is fine by the way and a childrens school uniform shop, for me anyway, isn't the place. The person could quite easily purchase on line to save everyones embarrassment.

My sister once served someone in Tesco with a copy of Nuts, a leek and a packet of condoms.

If people can't deal with an adult buying a skirt, jumper and blazer they'd faint at the things some individuals might do with the produce in Tesco Hmm

TunipTheVegemal · 19/09/2012 15:01

I have less of a problem with the sexualisation of vegetables than with the sexualisation of children.

Indeed, but isn't that a non-sequitur?

ClippedPhoenix · 19/09/2012 15:19

Have you been on the malt aready OMC? Grin

OneMoreChap · 19/09/2012 15:21

ClippedPhoenix wish I had; build problems :-(

ClownBikeInAVelodrome · 19/09/2012 17:48

OK sorry but WHAT???

Because someone likes to dress in school uniform they 'might be looking at your child sexually' ???

UTTERLY ridiculous and without foundation (and I know some adults who wear school uniform as part of their job, and they are not paedophiles in any way whatsoever; similarly I went to a fancy dress party dressed as a Scout once and had to go in and buy a woggle, does this make me depraved??)

Icelollycraving · 19/09/2012 17:53

Which brings about a whole new meaning to must take a leek :o

MonsieurReynard · 19/09/2012 18:00

Was it Mr Benn?

yousankmybattleship · 19/09/2012 18:05

Maybe it was wee Jimmy Crankie. Isn't he/she dead though? Now that would be unhygienic! Barring dead celebs imperonating school children I don't really see the issue though. Isn't it a shop? Can't anyone who wants to things from a shop just turn up and buy them? Don't remember ever having to undergo any kind of morality test in Top Shop.

MrsReiver · 19/09/2012 18:10

Wee Jimmy Crankie isn't dead Grin Jeanette and Ian are live and well and probably enjoying swinging parties dressed in school uniform.

yousankmybattleship · 19/09/2012 18:12

Thank you MrsReiver. Apologies to all those Crankies fans out there!

MonsieurReynard · 19/09/2012 18:14

Still very much alive and doing panto up this neck of the woods! Although, last year they hit the headlines for their swinging sex life...

MonsieurReynard · 19/09/2012 18:15

Darn, too late!

iknowwho · 19/09/2012 18:16

I really don't need the thought of Wee Jimmy Crankie having sex with randoms!!

yousankmybattleship · 19/09/2012 18:16

I don't know whether I'm more shocked that they're alive or that they're swingers!

OP. Did the email contain the word fandabbydozy?

DanyTargaryen · 19/09/2012 18:31

But they wanted to BUY it??

iknowwho · 19/09/2012 18:37

OP. Did the email contain the word fandabbydozy?
That is hilarious!!!

QuacksForDoughnuts · 19/09/2012 18:42

For many reasons I am squicked out by the idea of someone getting off on pretending that their sexual partner is a child. On the other hand, if it's between consenting adults in private (i.e. I don't have to see or think about it) then it's their business, and unless the person and his/her partner are cavorting around the shop whipping each other with school ties then surely your husband doesn't have to put much thought into it? I'm really not sure about the hygiene aspect, maybe you need a rule that underwear needs to stay on while trying on clothing? Would be worth applying it to all ages tbh. Would your husband be so bothered about, for example, a twelve or thirteen year old having a laundry crisis and needing to borrow a white shirt from their parent or (adult and hence 'unhygienic' by his standards) brother or sister?
