adults in schoolwear shop

or rather is hubby? He runs a schoolwear shop which is used a fair deal by kids at the local schools and independants as well. Recently he he received an email supposedly from an adult asking to come in and try on a uniform and buy (full blazer, jumper, skirt getup). First time he ignored, emailed again and he politely said they only have childrens sizes. He just doesn't think its appropriate and also unhygenic if an adult trys on stuff that later goes to a child. Why would an adult want a real school uniform?

I need to know why it could be unhygienic. I now have a vision of a couple arriving together to try on said uniform and having a shag in the changing room.

meditrina · 19/09/2012 14:02

At lunchtime, I really could have done without the thought of wanking in a changing room.

Yes. I rather wish I'd not just scoffed that lovely creamy brie on water biscuits down. It is sitting a little uncomfortably now.

Icelollycraving · 19/09/2012 14:11

Sorry, was it my comment about the fitting room which conjured up the lunch unsettling thoughts?!

DelhiCalling · 19/09/2012 14:12

Yanbu. The guy sounds of dubious morality.

sidress · 19/09/2012 14:13

I'll show him this thread when he gets home and find exactly what it is. Sorry if some find it unnerving, just wanted to ask.

WELL, after I left uni I had a summer job in a school outfitters. According to the permanent staff that worked there, they had a middle-aged man who would come in every year without fail and buy a whole girls uniform- gym kit, blazer, tie, the works. He used to say it was for a female relative but the relation changed every time, as did the school he was buying for. Oh, and it was all large sizes.

They thought he was obviously a bit odd, but at the end of the day a sale?s a sale and he wasn?t harming anyone

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 19/09/2012 14:29

how do they know he wast harming anyone?

GrimmaTheNome · 19/09/2012 14:29

Some people have secondary aged kids much the same size as themselves...could be easier to try on themselves than dragging a teen to the outfitters who then insists on a size too tight and too short Grin

And, as has been hinted at, most adults are more hygenic than a lot of teens!

TheCraicDealer · 19/09/2012 14:33

Because he was clearly buying it for himself?

amybelle1990 · 19/09/2012 14:36

My school teachers would wear school uniform when the students had a non-school uniform day...

YABU there could be a perfectly reasonable explanation for someone wanting an adult size.

Also (worse case scenario) if he is indulging some sort of sexual fetish, you aren't going to stop him simply by not selling him the uniform.

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 19/09/2012 14:37

I must buy some carbolic soap to bath the kids tonight. After all, they tried on some clothes that I bought from Topman! A man might have tried them on! OMG, how unhygenic!

aldiwhore · 19/09/2012 14:38

I really don't see the issue.

squeakytoy · 19/09/2012 14:38

you havent really answered any of our questions though OP

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 19/09/2012 14:38

I would have made the assumption he he was buying it for a female.

ShobGiteTheKnid · 19/09/2012 14:41

TheBigJessie · 19/09/2012 14:41

Unhygienic?

Besides, isn't the potential customer planning to buy a uniform?

ClippedPhoenix · 19/09/2012 14:42

Yes, what did the email say?

It would look rather odd if a man came in and tried the uniform on in the shop in front of lots of kids. Now that wouldn't really be on.

OTheHugeManatee · 19/09/2012 14:43

Perhaps there is a danger that a PEEDO will come and implant little tiny PEEDO MIND CONTROL DEVICES in ordinary school uniform articles and use them to BRIANWASH INNOCENT CHILDREN Shock

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/09/2012 14:45

I don't think anyone here finds it unnerving, I think the problem is that your husband finds it unnerving.

Is it really a problem if someone has a perfectly legal sexual fetish about wearing a uniform or getting his partner to? Some people might find that icky, but if you're offering a service to the public, I don't think you can choose not to serve a sector of the public just because you don't agree with the use they might put your stock to.

Alternatively, yes, it could be a costume for an event. Or for a large teenager. And am boggling at the suggestion that an adult would necessarily be more unhygenic than a child. Hmm

CaptainHetty · 19/09/2012 14:46

OP hasn't mentioned it being a man, unless I've missed something. That just seems to be an assumption made by some posters.

ClippedPhoenix · 19/09/2012 14:47

lot's of in's and on's there! But hopefully you know what I mean Blush

ReshapeWhileDamp · 19/09/2012 14:47

Brianwash, Manatee? Grin

ClippedPhoenix · 19/09/2012 14:48

Oh, yes, Captain I did just do that. Ok then, a person.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 19/09/2012 14:48
