We're new at the school, DD1 started reception last week.
I took done contact forms in this morning to the school office window.
THe, very nice, woman took them off me and left them by her side and carried on dealing with the que - with my address completely on show, for any Tom dick or Harry to nose at! Shock
We are exceedingly well respected in the local community as business people and I really don't think that this info should be getting into the public demain.
At least 8 other adults were dealt with after shed put the form down.
Could/should I complain to the HT re the data protection act?
I'm really upset by this.

I didn't wait, I was gossing with a friend, but with eyeline of the office. So I could see what planned out. By the time it wouldn't of been rude to interrupt, all the people had gone and the moment had past and I had to get to work. Times money you know lol.

Can't guess what you do for a living op. But I think I can guess your address. I suppose the likelihood of anyone you wouldn't want popping round depends on how many houses under bridges there are in your neighbourhood...

PooPooOnMars · 17/09/2012 11:43

Give us a clue!

DreamingofSummer · 17/09/2012 11:43

I presume the OP is the school receptionist and is taking the piss out of the over bearing parents

PowerDresser · 17/09/2012 11:43

Nah. Lollipop Lady is too good.

'....go about there business...'
'she should of....'
'...is lots of jobs out there...'
'...public demain...'

Washer up in school kitchen?

annh · 17/09/2012 11:44

Well, obviously if you are so respected in the community and such a prominent business person, you would know that official documentation should have been put in an envelope. How common to just hand sheets of paper to the school office and then stand around "gossing" to a friend afterwards!

MyOrangeDogShitsGoldMoney · 17/09/2012 11:44

Oh, too much too soon op.

You had all the ingredients of a classic there but you ruined it with overkill

Next time, think - less is more.

jkklpu · 17/09/2012 11:45

it's actually "bijou" unless it modifies a plural

OrangeHorraceTheGoldenOtter · 17/09/2012 11:45

You were nearly a believable nutter until your 11.34 post, but I'm afraid you've gone down hill since. At least you're quite funny rather than malicious. I do hope your NN is also a joke...

edam · 17/09/2012 11:45

Is this a wind-up?

MadgeHarvey · 17/09/2012 11:47

done it in my best purple Sharpy

When you're looking back at this, oh respected one, that ^ up there is where you spoilt it.

Flimflammery · 17/09/2012 11:48

I think she's trying to enrage the pedants. And the peasants.

Purple Sharpie? very funny

anditwasallyellow · 17/09/2012 11:48

I think that while the op does sound ridiculous and ott. I suppose that there are times when an address needs to be condidential.

For example a family fled from domestic violence. If the op was for example a doctor or a police officer it would not be a good idea for everyone to have access to her address.

While for most of us it's a trivial issue and noone would have the slightest interest in where we live if the form is suppoed to be conditential then it should be confidential.

Flimflammery · 17/09/2012 11:49

edam: yes

ArtfulAardvark · 17/09/2012 11:51

Well if this isnt a joke my advice would be to chalk this up to experience and in future, if you want something to be private, make sure you put it in an envelope. In this situation I would have folded the form in half with my details inside but tbh I doubt if anyone was even vaguely interested unless you are famous.

I would save your complaints for now or you will just be tagged a moaner.

I live in a village everyone knows everyone elses business, address, relationships and what they dont know they make up...drives me mad.

Kewcumber · 17/09/2012 11:53

YANBU - based on what you've said about your customers and fellow parents (or at least how you've said it) you're quite right to want to hide where you live. And I'd imagine they're gagging to know.

Don't you have class contact lists with names and addresses email out to the whole class? Confused

Or do you put a PO box number on it instead of your address?

But (with my old Data Protection Officer hat on) you are technically quite correct that your school receptionist should have taken better care of your private details and no doubt she would be thrilled with some constructive advice next time you are in the office. Or perhaps you could lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioners office.

(Sarcasm alert - it may well affect the value of your lovely local business if you really do this...)

Onvelope? Now that is genius.

Nothing like a bit of bad spelling to rile the mumsnetters eh? OP. Are you Katie Hopkins?

Surely you've got something better to offer than a badly constructed post and a claim to be something in the community.

2/10 for original post
5/10 for Onvelope and purple sharpie

Come on, drip feed a bit more for us......

EldritchCleavage · 17/09/2012 11:55

Very good, but I agree, the purple Sharpy thing was de trop.

WorraLiberty · 17/09/2012 11:55

Very funny thread OP

But you'd better get back to that Community you were talking about, before your carer notices you're missing.

Kewcumber · 17/09/2012 11:56

Oh damn its a wind up isn't it - but I really was a Data Protection Officer - I could have wowed you all with my incisive assessment of the situation and advised on the possible resolutions available to OP.

Damn.

RaisinDEtre · 17/09/2012 11:57

Purple sharpie? Do you do those little bubbles over your i instead of a dot?
What anditwas said, on balance yanbu

Snatchandjerk · 17/09/2012 12:00

OP I love watching Mike the Knight and his little friend, oh what's his name ........?
