We're new at the school, DD1 started reception last week.
I took done contact forms in this morning to the school office window.
THe, very nice, woman took them off me and left them by her side and carried on dealing with the que - with my address completely on show, for any Tom dick or Harry to nose at! Shock
We are exceedingly well respected in the local community as business people and I really don't think that this info should be getting into the public demain.
At least 8 other adults were dealt with after shed put the form down.
Could/should I complain to the HT re the data protection act?
I'm really upset by this.

Is this a reverse AIBU? Are you the receptionist?

brass · 17/09/2012 10:43

sorry fait slower to type!

MadgeHarvey · 17/09/2012 10:43

I'm falling about laughing here at the idea of all those hassled tired frazzled parents standing in line memorising your details word for word instead of dealing with whatever they were there for!

I used that word cunning. I am not proud of myself.

stifnstav · 17/09/2012 10:43

An exceedingly well respected loller!

ShutTheFrontDoor · 17/09/2012 10:43

I hope you don't have to produce any literature in your well respected business !! Or you employ a proof reader.

onadifferentplanet · 17/09/2012 10:43

if other people were bringing in similar forms presumably theirs would have been put on top of yours in the pile. If you are sure none of the others were there for the same reason then you obviously listened in on their conversations and invaded their privacy.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 17/09/2012 10:43

Yes. All those parents/grandparents arent in the queue thinking about the million and one things going on in their own lives. They are standing there, behind you, on the off chance they may get to see your address.

So they can respect you exceedingly at your house, instead of in the community.

CaptainHetty · 17/09/2012 10:43

I doubt anyone else in the queue was remotely interested in your address, don't worry.

Rubirosa · 17/09/2012 10:44

Why would other parents at the school memorise your address Confused If they are that interested in where you live they can just follow you home!

Anyway, if you didn't want anyone in the queue to se your form you should have asked the receptionist to move it at the time rather than say nothing and then whinge about it later.

ShutTheFrontDoor · 17/09/2012 10:44

Anyway, yes, you absolutely should complain. Please let us know how you get on.

Actual lolz Grin

Don't be silly - of course you can't vet who comes round. Not without violating their confidentiality.

Anyway - won't your child be choosing their new friends?

This isn't about being a bloody mindreader. You have posted a thread on AIBU, asking "AIBU to be annoyed at the school receptionists blatant flouting of my right to privacy?"

I ask the question again, slightly rephrased: WHAT are you afraid might have happened if the other parents in the queue had seen your address???

I also have to ask: Why in god's name would any of the other parents and carers give a tinkers TOOT about your contact details??

YABEU (E= extremely)

brass · 17/09/2012 10:46

who's not whose

I don't think I'd like my DC to mix with someone who doesn't know the difference.

Hullygully · 17/09/2012 10:46

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

GoldShip · 17/09/2012 10:46

Get over yourself.

picturesinthefirelight · 17/09/2012 10:46

Ok I can see where the OP is coming from. Dh is a teacher & although we no longer live in the area where he teaches it used to be quite important that certain parents did not have his contact details.

At my children's school there is a parent who works with mentally I'll patients who has had threats made against his family. They also have an unusual surname.

You never know people's circumstances.

StormGlass · 17/09/2012 10:46

YANBU to not want your private details on display.

But YABU to imply that your position in the local community makes you especially deserving of privacy.

JodieHarsh · 17/09/2012 10:47

Madam, your pants are on fire.

compackedandbijoux · 17/09/2012 10:47

No sone of the other grownups were dropping off naughty latecomers and a couple had verbal messages (didn't listen, obvs) and 2 others gave in small envelopes which went in a tray on her left. So my A4 papers weren't covered.

SammyTheSwedishSquirrel · 17/09/2012 10:47

If the contents of the form were of such concern to you, why on earth wouldn't you put it in an envelope to hand to a busy receptionist? Confused

YABU and a bit bonkers.

slowestwildebeast · 17/09/2012 10:47

Memorised your address? Why? Are you mrs Kipling?

I love your cakes.

Yabu

kitsmummy · 17/09/2012 10:47

Little hint - as you are so well respected in the local community as business people, please don't ever let any of your written work get into the public domain. If people were to see your spelling, that respect could quickly disappear.
