We're new at the school, DD1 started reception last week.
I took done contact forms in this morning to the school office window.
THe, very nice, woman took them off me and left them by her side and carried on dealing with the que - with my address completely on show, for any Tom dick or Harry to nose at! Shock
We are exceedingly well respected in the local community as business people and I really don't think that this info should be getting into the public demain.
At least 8 other adults were dealt with after shed put the form down.
Could/should I complain to the HT re the data protection act?
I'm really upset by this.

No - sorry - but if the ongoing secrecy of your contact details was that important you'd have taken steps to ensure privacy - i.e, as suggested previously, the use of an envelope.

We..elll, does Companies House list your residential address? What's the registered address of your business? How long have you lived and worked in this place? Are you on the Electoral Roll (and if so, full or restricted entry?) In the 'Phone Book?

Because while carelessness with personal information is annoying (envelopes are your friend in future) the chances are a lot of people know where you live, or can find it out pretty quickly. I seem to remember Heather Mills tried to sue someone for revealing her address ages ago, and lost. It isn't particularly private. I don't think other people would remember it or care, even if they'd bother to look over and read your forms.

Also its "public domain" :)

Tweasels · 17/09/2012 11:06

Ah, this has made my morning.

OP, you poor poor thing. I hope the proles don't start hanging around your house for just that special glimpse of you oh worthy one.

Oh, I think you're spell check may be broken

Pipsqueak99 · 17/09/2012 11:06

If you wre that well known and respected in the local community wouldn't everyone already know who you were and where you live??

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/09/2012 11:06

I think you are an estate agent and I claim my £10 prize. Grin

Pipsqueak99 · 17/09/2012 11:07

So maybe you are actually not as important as you think you are?

PunkInDublic · 17/09/2012 11:07

You should have put it in an envelope if you were that bothered.

I doubt they'll want to know your address and try to come round despite how well respected you are.

I imagine you sporting a tinfoil hat.

Ok, ok I admit it. I saw your address, and memorised it. I've written it in my special notebook along with all the other addresses I've seen and memorised over the years Hmm

Think you need to get over yourself.

Other parents are completely disinterested in where you live. Unless you vet every neighbour and their relatives and friends it will get out. What will happen if it does?

If its so important you should of put it in an envelope.

We had a high profile person under police protection live near my old house. Everyone knew where they lived because they and the police did everything they could to stop people knowing. So people became very nosey.

The harder you try the less likely you are to succeed.

Bobyan · 17/09/2012 11:11

Mmm, fondent fancies.

Kayano · 17/09/2012 11:11

Exceedingly well respected Grin

Hyacinth? Hyacinth is that you?

MrsCarriePooter · 17/09/2012 11:11

When you say "exceedingly well respected in the local community as business people" - are you drug dealers? Do you run an extortion/protection racket? I reckon even Tony Soprano had his number in the phone book.

PostBellumBugsy · 17/09/2012 11:11

LOL, could have been worse - could have been a photo of your tits! Grin
