To make my step son clean the WHOLE of my car

finnbarr · 15/09/2012 11:18

Picked him up from a party last night.
He threw up in my car. ALL over the outside of the passenger side (I couldn't stop where he decided he needed to be sick)
And all inside-the back seat, the passanger seat etc.
He thinks I'm being harsh to expect my WHOLE car to be cleaned-inside and out....
Am I??

YANBU. He won't do it again! Grin

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 15/09/2012 11:20

YANBU at all! Yuck, that's vile!

squeakytoy · 15/09/2012 11:20

Not at all unreasonable.. tell him if he cant face it, to pay for a professional cleaning service.

NicholasTeakozy · 15/09/2012 11:21

YANBU. Not in the slightest.

balia · 15/09/2012 11:22

Whole car cleaned and flowers, minimum.

Socknickingpixie · 15/09/2012 11:22

yanbu why isant his dad helping you to get him to do it?

SoleSource · 15/09/2012 11:23

Rug Dr.

Narked · 15/09/2012 11:23

I'd make him do it for the lesson. Then I'd get the professionals to do it so it doesn't stink Grin

FryOneFatManic · 15/09/2012 11:24

Definitely not harsh, and his dad needs to back you up.

JumpingThroughMoreHoops · 15/09/2012 11:25

How old is he? coz if he's working I'd be demanding a professional valet company came out rather than a half arsed hung over attempt was made.

ComradeJing · 15/09/2012 11:25

YANBU at all!

What is exactly his argument against doing so? Hmm

JennerOSity · 15/09/2012 11:27

It's the least he can do, and make a good job of it too. No more lifts for him if he won't IMO.

florencejon · 15/09/2012 11:28

yanbu. Fabreeze spray (sorry, am not in the UK so hope you can get it there) works well to eradicate the vomit smell in cars but a good clean before is essential. Doing this with an almighty hangover will be a lesson he will not forget in a hurry.

Catsmamma · 15/09/2012 11:30

oh disgusting boy!

Has he refused to do it? Dirty wee bugger!

MmeLindor · 15/09/2012 11:30

YANBU

It will take ages for the smell to go.

If he has the money, I would suggest going to a car valet service after he has got the worst off.

mum11970 · 15/09/2012 11:33

Assuming it's because he'd been drinking, not a little one who ate too much party food then no ynbu. I hate sick and have warned people before if they throw up in my car they get out there and then, lol. If he'd got a taxi he would have to pay for it to be valeted so he can damn well get yours cleaned.

Narked · 15/09/2012 11:34

Yes ^. Obviously if he's 7 and ate too much cake YABU Grin

mum11970 · 15/09/2012 11:35

Make sure he lifts the seats up and cleans under them as well.

Socknickingpixie · 15/09/2012 11:44

christ i just realised i assumed he was a almost adult and the puke was booze induced, i apoligise for asuming and if my assumption was incorect and he is a small child who is ill then yabu

Melpomene · 15/09/2012 11:50

The OP does say 'last night", so presumably he's a teen not a small child.

IloveJudgeJudy · 15/09/2012 11:50

I'm assuming he's 17/18? If so, then you are definitely NBU. DS1 threw up on the outside of DH's passenger door. Some did get in the inside. DH and I quickly cleaned it up immediately as DS was in no position to do so, but DS had to clean the whole car inside and out the next day. We did have to make him, unfortunately, as he should have offered. He would now offer, but would not be sick in a car now.

finnbarr · 15/09/2012 11:58

He's 16 nearly 17.
His argument is that he only threw up on half of it...so should only clean half of it!!!!Angry
His dad doesn't want to get involved coz he's got a headache!!
SS has now gone out because I'm a bitch and I'm horrible...so I've had to go and finish my car.
And he's missed LOADS on the inside....SO unimpressed!!!

No yanbu. Im sure he's relieved it wasn't in a taxi as they charge a fortune to fine you for accidents!

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 15/09/2012 12:01

Go puke in his bed. Foul boy, and his dad should have backed you up.

I take it there will be no more lifts home from parties?

IloveJudgeJudy · 15/09/2012 12:02

Well, I think you can't let him get away with that. I suggest that you don't give him a lift home from the next two/three parties, which will obviously mean that he can't go. It's a bit cowardly of his dad not to get involved, but if he hasn't got involved up until now, then he needs to back you up with the next sanction. That is how DS would be treated, so you can't treat DSS any differently than you would a DS. Good luck with whatever you decide. If it's any consolation, he probably will grow up with a completely different attitude if DS1 is anything to go by.
