To have called the 101 police number whilst on motorway today

Driving back from collecting DD.
DD spotted two vehicles, a truck and a van driving too close to each other and weaving.
She said there was a tow rope between them!

We (safely) slowed down to have a look and sure enough it was just a rope. A small pickup was towing a large transit which clearly had no power assisted brakes and was doing 55-60 in the left lane and weaving dangerously. The vehicles seemed way too close and we were concerned about tow rope ( which I know is iliegal it has to be a metal bar)

So AIBU to have phoned ( hands free) and reported them? DD got the reg plates.

Perfectly reasonable, If you hadn't, and then saw on the news about a motorway pile-up caused by this, you'd have felt terrible.

YANBU. I think that was the right thing to do - make them aware and then they can decide what to do. I did something similar recently, a car towing a caravan had just stopped on the road, no hazards or indicators on but the driver and passenger were on the verge, on a mobile phone. This was on a very busy stretch of a notoriously dangerous road in peak holiday season. I stopped in the next layby and phoned the non emergency number and just said what I'd seen and that if they wanted to go and take a look then that was up to them. I'd rather do that than get home and find out there had been an accident and I'd done nothing.
