This really annoys me & smacks of smugness. Your husband cannot be pregnant along with you! Why not say I am pregnant?

amybelle1990 · 13/09/2012 22:55

Naming bumps isn't as weird as calling them it if you don't know the gender

jellybaby25 · 13/09/2012 22:56

@scottish ... cringey cringe! I just don't get joint email accounts

OP posts:
jellybaby25 · 13/09/2012 22:56

@Pickles .... that is awful!

OP posts:
Cynner · 13/09/2012 22:57

What is this naming bumps thing? Like cyclops? Err..no..guess that would be for eye in middle of forehead...

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 13/09/2012 22:57

Later on it got a 4d scan as profile photo.

It made me shudder.

PicklesThePottyMouthedParrot · 13/09/2012 22:58

Mine is called Clive McLumpity

Cynner · 13/09/2012 23:00

Naming the bump or the baby to be? My bumps should have all been named Chubby Hubby then..

MrsFaffnBobbocks · 13/09/2012 23:08

I got loudly corrected by my grumpy FIL for mentioning that my brother is expecting twins later this year. (Well they both are, aren't they?) Was I wrong then??

meditrina · 13/09/2012 23:09

It's cringe.

We are going to be parents. Possibly, we are having a baby. But only she is pregnant.

Noqontrol · 13/09/2012 23:18

Its a cringe from me. When I was spending most of my time with my head down the toilet in the early months, being kept awake from kicking in the later months, and screaming my head off in labour, I didn't notice that dh was particularly affected by any of that. Maybe its because it wasn't him who was pregnant.

I quite happily said 'we' were pregnant when I had the privilege of being able to tell my friends that my pregnancy test was positive so they were having a baby.

TudorJess · 13/09/2012 23:36

"We're pregnant" is better than "we're having a baby" because you're not taking for granted that it will have a positive outcome.

TinyDancingHoofer · 13/09/2012 23:40

It's something Ross from friends would say Confused very odd.

fishface2 · 13/09/2012 23:44

Yabu, although it is factually incorrect, it's a way to get the point across that the pregnancy and subsequent baby was jointly planned and should be the equal responsibility of both parents. I said ''we'" and it seems that I am one of only a few women, amongst my friends,
who shares the responsibility of parenthood equally with their partner.

MyHeartBelongsToKermit · 13/09/2012 23:59

YANBU. I hate it when people announce pregnancy this way.

I usually respond with "Really? Both at the same time??"

Lolwhut · 14/09/2012 00:22

We are having a baby = ok
we are pregnant = not ok
my wife/partner is pregnant = ok
we are going to be parents = ok

TheQueenOfDiamonds · 14/09/2012 03:10

Yanbu. Its not sweet, cute or anything positive, it's just incorrect, twee and makes you look like a massive twat. Seriously, the only people who think this phrase is ok are those that say it themselves, everyone else is laughing at you.

"We are expecting" is perfectly fine, why can't they just say that and save themselves the embarrassment?

monsterchild · 14/09/2012 03:17

I like to say "Look! we're pregnant!" to my Dh and then rub his big Buddha belly. Mine looks surprisingly like his right now. I often tell him that we have matching bumps!

he is horrified and cringes and tells me that he is a man and can't be pregnant!

monsterchild · 14/09/2012 03:18

oh, and we have named the fetus Cletus.

arthurfowlersallotment · 14/09/2012 05:20

I know a we're pregnant couple.
It makes me clench my arse cheeks.

I keep thinking, there'll be no we're pregnant when those contractions ramp up and he's there, waving a flannel.
