Poop bags and bins

putonyourredshoes · 13/09/2012 12:54

One of the main reasons people claim for not picking up dog poop is that there are a very limited number of official poop bins.

Would it be unreasonable to drop the bags into normal house wheely bins? I can't work out whether it's practical and to be encouraged or a disgusting abuse of someone else's property.

I wouldn't mind as I have a dog and I'd rather it was there than on the pavement. I dare say I'll be alone in this opinion and I wouldn't put it in someone's bin without asking.

I just double bag and take it home to put in the bin there. Not great for the environment but rather that than someone stepping in it.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 13/09/2012 13:00

I wouldn't drop it in someone's private bin. I would in a large communal bin, as used in large blocks of flats though.

I just don't see the problem with just walking with the little bag. It's not pleasant but neither is it a big deal; nor would I expect someone else to deal with the yucky bits of my dog without the lovely benefits!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/09/2012 13:00

Yabu. Your dog. Your dog shit. Carry it with you until you reach dog bin. If you can't deal with this then don't have a dog.

bureni · 13/09/2012 13:03

If I was caught putting dog poop or even a disposable nappy in a domestic rubbish bin I would be fined, special bins should be supplied to everyone for that purpose imo.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 13/09/2012 13:04

I put it in bins that are waiting to be collected, but still full iyswim. Other than that, no.

glenthebattleostrich · 13/09/2012 13:04

And please don't bag poo and hide it behind a lamppost. Or think it's ok to let your dog shit on my front garden where children play. I don't let my 2 year old shit in the street or on your front lawn so don't let your pet do the same.

If you have a dog, clean up after it and take it home.

RustyBear · 13/09/2012 13:04

According to our Borough Council (Wokingham) bagged dogshit is not hazardous waste and can be put in normal litter bins - which is why they removed all the dogshit bins in the borough to save money.

ImASpecialSnowflake · 13/09/2012 13:05

Well it certainly wouldn't bother me. It's bagged anyway and if there is no suitable bin around then what does it matter if it goes in a 'normal' bin. Much rather that than on the pavement like a lot of disgusting not-fit-to-own-a-dog types.

fuzzypicklehead · 13/09/2012 13:06

What about public non-poo bins? In our village, the actual poo bins are more than a mile apart but several public bins are located between. I often wonder whether it would be ok to drop the bag in a regular bin, but am chicken so I carry it home.

fuzzypicklehead · 13/09/2012 13:07

Ah, X-posted.

ScarlettInSpace · 13/09/2012 13:13

There is a wood near us which is very polular with dog walkers but there isn't a bin in sight - all round the entrance gate there are piles of dumped filled poo bags, why go to all the trouble of bagging it then dump the bag??

I'll take the thing home [double bagged in a carrier bag in the boot] if I have to, my dog my problem.

ScarlettInSpace · 13/09/2012 13:14

[obvs I mean the poo bag double bagged in a carrier bag in the boot, not the dog lol]

ImASpecialSnowflake · 13/09/2012 13:18

Grin at double bagging the dog

KellyElly · 13/09/2012 13:21

Not in someone's private bin no way!! In a public bin not designated for recycling then yes.

aliportico · 13/09/2012 13:22

Yeah, I'm next door to RustyBear in Reading, and our council said the same - dog shit has been downgraded or something! The newest litter bins in parks etc specifically say on them that they are for general litter and poo bags. So I put mine in any old bin - double bagged if it is in a general litter bin.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/09/2012 13:22

Ewww! That's disgusting. No, please don't.

Back when we had those little bits, not the wheelie kind, my dad had filled it full and got in to stand on it all to tramp stuff down. Someone had decided to put a bag of dog mess in. It was revolting.

People might push stuff down with their hands without thinking - you really don't want to squish open a bag of dog poo unexpectedly!

redlac · 13/09/2012 13:23

RustyBear my local council have done this too - big campaign about picking up after your dog and putting the bags in a normal bin but they have removed all the dog bins and there is 1 public bin in my area which is nowhere near where the vast majority of people walk their dogs so the numpties bag the poop and then leave it next to a treat Confused

Anotherusefulname · 13/09/2012 13:25

I would rather people didnt put their dog's poo in my bin but it is preferable to the weirdos round here that put it in a little bag the hang it from a tree. What is that all about? I used to think maybe they would collect it on their way back, until I saw a man do it the walk out of the park.

Theeverexpandingrodders · 13/09/2012 13:27

I dont mind if its my black rubbish bin but we have had people dump it in my blue recycling bin before and I have had to fish it out myself , the filthy pigs Angry

Ephiny · 13/09/2012 13:30

I wouldn't put any rubbish in someone else's private bin, never mind dog poo (though we do put bagged poos in our own wheelie bin).

Normal public bins are fine though (at least in our council area).

RuleBritannia · 13/09/2012 14:08

We have poo bins round here at nearby woods but outside my house there is a footpath with a bit of grassy land opposite. One particular owner comes to let her dog poo and wee there I went out and remonstrated with her once and she pretended to be deaf.

She still does it so I have ordered some itching powder, make a timetable of when she comes and then pounce 15 minutes before. Her dog won't want to come again.

putonyourredshoes · 13/09/2012 14:21

Eh? what are you planning to do with the itching powder?

OP posts:
Ephiny · 13/09/2012 14:22

If someone is regularly leaving dog poo outside your house, you can report them to the council.

putonyourredshoes · 13/09/2012 14:24

Are bins private though? I thought they all belonged to the council rather than the house owner.

So other than the yuk factor though, is there any actual reason not to do it? I get that people don't like it but no-one likes poo bags littering the place up either, it just seems a reasonably simple solution. I am talking about wrapped up poo obviously, not turds thrown in willynilly.
