Poop bags and bins

putonyourredshoes · 13/09/2012 12:54

One of the main reasons people claim for not picking up dog poop is that there are a very limited number of official poop bins.

Would it be unreasonable to drop the bags into normal house wheely bins? I can't work out whether it's practical and to be encouraged or a disgusting abuse of someone else's property.

Bag it and take it home. If you know it's in your bin you can clean the bin as you choose.

I once watched a man in the local park (with two dogs) use a poo bag as a glove to pick up dog #1 shit, then drop the turds, 'naked' into a litter bin. He then wandered off after the dogs still wearing the 'glove,' presumably waiting for dog #2 to perform.

I can only hope the shit went right into the bin, not down the side. I had visions afterwards of a child going to put something in the bin and, as children do, shoving their whole arm in to make sure it doesn't fall out. Made me feel a bit sick. Loads of poo bins around too.

bureni · 13/09/2012 14:28

Rulebrittania, so you are going to take your anger out on the dog rather than the owner?

MoaningMingeWhingesAgain · 13/09/2012 14:30

Maybe he only had one bag left? Grin At least he disposed of it!

People who don't pick up their dog poo give me the rage.

Fakebook · 13/09/2012 14:31

Please don't put your dog shit in green wheelie bins. What if it leaks? Some poor person will have dog shit smeared in their bin without any knowledge how it happened. Keep your shit to yourself.

flow4 · 13/09/2012 14:37

There are no - I repeat, NO - special dog bins in our area. The council does not provide them. We are expected to put bagged poo in normal bins.
Frankly (and I expect many people will think IABU here) since I live in a rural area, I think that very often it is worse to bag up my dog's poo and put it into landfill, than it is to pick it up from a path and lob it into a patch of nettles!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/09/2012 14:40

put - the reason I gave, that it's not the bin you're using, and the people who use it will reasonably expect there not to be a bag of dog poo in there.

It's fine to put it in a communal bin if that's all there is, but if you put it in someone's bin for their house, you're assuming that someone isn't ever going to put their hand in to squish rubbish down, or think 'shit, I accidentally thew away such-and-such, must rifle through', or whatever.

putonyourredshoes · 13/09/2012 14:42

LDR - that is a good point and completely true.

My local council has stickered all the public bins in our area saying that dog poo can be put in any public bin. I would never dream of putting dog poo in someone's private bin. For a start they only go out in the street every two weeks on bin collection day. Though that is by no means the main reason I would not do it.

LesleyPumpshaft · 13/09/2012 14:56

I hate seeing tied up poop bags dangling off the branches of trees like Satan's Christmas baubles. Angry

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 13/09/2012 15:12

I don't get that either. What is the logic? Why go to all the effort of scooping and bagging if you are not going to bin. If you just left it at least it would biodegrade.

IloveJudgeJudy · 13/09/2012 15:12

Do not put dog poo in my bin, please. I don't have a dog as I don't want a dog and all the other stuff that goes with it. I would not take kindly at all to someone putting their dog shit in my bin. Take it home and put it in your own bin.

putonyourredshoes · 13/09/2012 15:15

JudgeJudy I'm guessing you're not too keen on dog crap all over the pavement either though?

Most dog owners are responsible and take it home but the fact remains that there aren't enough official bins.

I wonder if it could be like a neighbourhood watch scheme - put a sticker on your bin if you're willing to let other people use it for bagged dog shite. Might work.

Since when was it OK to put anything in someone else's wheely bin? I would never do this Confused

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 13/09/2012 15:24

Shocking that you even need to ask! In any case the dustman only take black bin bags from teh bins, so the doogie bags would be left for the bin owner to dispose of - how?

WelshMaenad · 13/09/2012 15:27

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest, it's not like I use our wheely bin for food storage or owt.

BreconBeBuggered · 13/09/2012 15:34

If it's okay to put it straight into a domestic bin where you live, take it home and put it in your own bin. Why would anyone donate dogshit to some other unsuspecting householder?

Emmielu · 13/09/2012 15:40

What's wrong with putting it in your own bin when you get back from walk?

Icanhasnickname · 13/09/2012 15:46

Now.....How about an 'opt-in' scheme where you can have a sticker on your bin saying "Poo friendly" or something. I'd rather have strange dog poo in my bin than on the pavement. And, maybe as a thank-you, all poo-friendly bins get a free cleaning once a year from council????

Emmielu · 13/09/2012 15:54

Or to save people starting an argument about why you opt in or out you could just take the poo home with you and dump it in your bin.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 13/09/2012 16:00

Are you serious?

What about, people who own dogs can bin the dog poo in the bins the council provides for them, not leave it on the pavement or in someone else's bin, and we avoid paying out money for cleaning up after people who cannot be bothered to do it themselves?

EchoBitch · 13/09/2012 16:04

I bag my dogs shit when she goes in the garden and bin it....why does it matter if someone else puts theirs in your bin,as long as its bagged, whats the problem?

GragPop · 13/09/2012 16:05

I just take my home, I think its fair to assume others don't want my dogs poop in their bin.

GragPop · 13/09/2012 16:05

my? *Mine

EchoBitch · 13/09/2012 16:09

This is true however....
We had neighbours who moved to a house just round the corner.
They used the big recycling bins to move their stuff, bins that had not been cleaned for years....dirty,dirty,lazy fuckers.

FrustratedSycamorePants · 13/09/2012 16:10

What about putting your poo bags in the private bin of someone you know doesn't clean up after their own dog, is this okay? semi-serious question actually
