Had one about 10 years ago, can't remember how i felt after. I remember it was pretty vile taking the preparation etc...

Can't change the appointment as other dates are worse but really don't want to miss the party I have been invited to that evening.

IABU aren't I, I am not going to be able to go...

You can try...

OrangePlumPie · 10/09/2012 14:59

That's the camera up the bum isn't it????

I had one 5 years ago and the only after effect was raging hunger/thirst after being nil by mouth!

I think a party would be manageable as long as you eat!

flyoverthegoldenhill · 10/09/2012 14:59

Go

NarcolepsyQueen · 10/09/2012 15:00

It is the sedative which will make you feel sleepy afterwards whoch will be the issue, if I remember correctly.

piprabbit · 10/09/2012 15:00

Is it a morning or afternoon appt.?

Freshletticiaandslugs · 10/09/2012 15:01

As long as you didn't have to be sedated to have the instrument, ahem, inserted, then you should be fine, if a little tender in the fundament. It's the groggy sedation drugs which make you feel yuck and you should only need that if you can't relax enough to allow access IYSWIM. Grin

intravenouscoffee · 10/09/2012 15:01

Really wouldn't recommend it. You'll feel totally wiped out from the bowel prep and will have been sedated for the procedure itself. If you don't need to confirm one way or the other you could leave the option open but I seriously doubt you'll feel like it.

Katienana · 10/09/2012 15:02

I think strictly speaking you can't, but you will probably be ok. Dh has them every 2 years he was fine after the last one

MrsTittleMouse · 10/09/2012 15:02

I was completely blotto from the sedatives after mine. You never know, you might be OK, but I wouldn't count on it. Sorry. :(

crashdollGOLD · 10/09/2012 15:02

I've been told you fart like a trooper all day after the procedure but if that doesn't bother you......

bumblebeader · 10/09/2012 15:02

From my experience I'd say you'll be fine. I've had a few colonoscopies and was even washing the kitchen floor on my hands and knees after one. It's the prep that's bad. Good luck!

Funnylittleturkishdelight · 10/09/2012 15:05

I went home and felt like death for three days after mine- it kick started my bleeding again and made my problems flare up again (irritation from the camera and from taking the prep).

My life's aim is to never have another.

It all depends on how you react to it- by all means plan to go, but be prepared to not. If it's an afternoon one, I'd say you definitely won't be going.

Doilooklikeatourist · 10/09/2012 15:06

I didn't have a sedative last time , just something for the discomfort ( ha ! )
Felt a little light headed immediately afterwards , but was fine by evening .
Probably can't have alcohol though .

JudithOfThePiece · 10/09/2012 15:07

I couldn't have gone to a party after I had mine. I'd have been slumped in a corner, sleepy from the sedatives and hovering above the floor from the huge amount of farting going on.

Everyone does react differently though (well, I think the farting is fairly universal - they do put a lot of air up there!) so perhaps say you'll see how you feel?

Definitely agree the prep was the worst bit!!

stillwaitingforthesummer · 10/09/2012 15:12

I couldn't have after either of mine. Felt wobbly and wiped out from sedative and bowel prep. Can't remember what exactly time my last one was - morning at some point - but definitely did not feel "right" until the next day. PJs and a good DVD are what is called for!

ColonoscopyQueen · 10/09/2012 15:15

God it is just going to be total humiliation if I go, I can see it now...!

I think I must have blocked all these side effects out of my memory as I can't remember a great deal about it, other than the morning of the procedure DH (who was not H at the time) driving me there in his very nice car with leather seats and me just begging him to get there so I could go to the loo for the hundredth time and being seriously panicked that if it took much longer his car would never be the same again Blush

Depends what kind of party it is and how you feel after. DP had one and he was fine, just hungry and a bit wiped out from the sedation and sleepless night beforehand. He could've gone to the kind of party where all he had to do was sit in a comfy chair, chat to his mates and have someone bring him the odd (soft) drink, but dancing all night and drinking the bar dry would've been out of the question.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/09/2012 16:27

Wait and see how you feel. If your procedure is early enough, and you get a good rest in the afternoon, you might be ok.

CaliforniaLeaving · 10/09/2012 19:34

I had an early morning appointment one, I wasn't up for much until the following day. I spent the day eating, sleeping and feeling groggy.

Iteotwawki · 10/09/2012 19:54

No reason why you shouldn't go to your party in the evening. I'd avoid alcohol as technically you aren't meant to have it within 24h of sedation and you shouldn't drive there / back (you won't be covered by insurance if you drive within 24h of sedation).

Other than that, depends why you're having the scope. If it's to check up on inflammatory bowel disease it may exacerbate your symptoms which may make you feel like crap and not want to go out. See how you feel?

BarbarianMum · 10/09/2012 20:01

Yes, should be fine if you don't have sedation. The farting only lasts a couple a hours .
