to complain to catalogue company about collect+

I ordered some items from a catalogue and the delivery was 4 pounds or free to get delivered to a collect + outlet. I opted to get it sent to my nearest one which was a newsagents. I got the text on friday to say they were ready to collect.

I went to collect them today and the lady who worked there was really rude. When I told her I was there to collect my parcel she said "I'm going to serve this other lady first as it takes ages" so I stepped aside and waited. She then asked my name and said "oh thank god your here they are taking up too much room and we haven't got much space behind the till and they have to be kept here for safety reasons" I just smiled awkwardly and said "do you get lots of people using this service?" She replied "yes your lucky you came today I told the lady when she brought more parcels this morning if you didn't come today she would have to come back tomorrow and take them away." It says on the email I received they will keep parcels ten days before sending them back. She asked for my account number and then gave me my first parcel. She then asked for my account number for 2nd parcel I told her it was the same account number for both parcels and she said "now you bloody tell me!" I has rested first parcel on the counter to sign for the second and she tapped it and said "move this I need to serve other customers" I took my parcels and left.

Anyway my mum who was with me couldn't believe how rude she was, maybe she noticed it more as a bystander and thinks I should email the catalogue company. This lady isn't employed by them though so don't know if there is any point. My mum pointed out that the shop chose to offer parcel collection and should have somewhere to store them and they will be getting paid from the catalogue. I don't usually complain about things and am planning to order more from this catalogue for xmas. WIBU to email the catalogue company. Thanks if you read this far and I know its not really a big problem just wondering if others would complain.

E-mail them. I doubt anything will change but at least you tried.

SugarBatty · 10/09/2012 14:26

Thanks If I'd have gone tomorrow and my parcels had been returned I would have been annoyed.

I had the same problem with my collect + parcel which was also my local newagents, they did'nt seem to know what they were doing and got quite flustered when the queue behind me got bigger and also wanted to serve the other people behind me to get the queue down, I said no just work a bit faster or get someone else on the till, It was my stroppy day that day, but it worked. She's always nice to me now!

SugarBatty · 10/09/2012 14:41

It felt like she was doing me a huge favour for looking after my parcel!

I've had the opposite experience - the shop I have mine delivered to are lovely - really helpful and friendly - yes I'd complain

YANBU

Complain to Collect+ head office about the specific place if they are not doing what they are supposed to do.

Complain to the catalogue company about Collect+ in general if you think they should use a different service.

mum11970 · 10/09/2012 14:59

My complaint would be firstly to the newsagents and then collect+. Must admit I've used this service a couple of times and the damn bar codes never seem to work and i'm usually there for ages but the staff are always polite. Luckily, last time, the courier came in while I was there and even he couldn't get the return label to work and had to print me out a new one in his van.

Mandy2003 · 10/09/2012 15:13

Is it an independent newsagents or one of a chain? If it is a chain, write to their head office to suggest that certain staff members are a little antsy about collect+

If it's an independent, have a word with the boss!

ParsleyTheLioness · 10/09/2012 16:32

If Rudelady had the power to return the parcel the next day, as she was suggesting, it may be her newsagent, or a family business, in which case not much complaint complaining to them, just go to the catalogue company in that case would be my advice.

ParsleyTheLioness · 10/09/2012 16:33

Not much point complaining to them...

WelshMaenad · 10/09/2012 17:01

I'd con

Bugger! I'd contact collect+. the newsagents opt in to the service so if they don't like it maybe they should stop offering it! See if there's another shop nearby. My collect+ shop is lovely.

quoteunquote · 10/09/2012 17:45

order lots of the largest items the catalog company have, go to pick them up on day nine, and then send them back, repeat until they get the message.

Bellyjaby · 10/09/2012 18:21

I agree with the others who say email collect+. We've recently hit issues with their barcodes too, but usually find going to a different newsagent solves this problem! All the newsagents have been polite though. Collect+ should be told that if newsagents act like this then it'll be collect+ losing business.

Then email the company saying the same thing!

ItsAFuckingVase · 10/09/2012 18:26

I often wonder why people don't address rudeness when it happens, rather than stewing on it all day.

The shop has nothing to do with the catalogue, so I don't think complaining to them would solve anything for you.

SugarBatty · 10/09/2012 19:40

Thanks for replies! it was a chain of newsagents but the name of the shop was also a family name if that makes sense! Think I will email the collect + just to say the lady said they would return my parcel early even though your allowed ten days to collect. Unfortunately its the only one near enough without having to get 2 buses which would cost the same as home delivery. I'm hoping another local shop offers the service soon. I didn't plan on taking any further action but my mum was really shocked and insisted I email them!
