It was my birthday on Bank Holiday Monday (not a special one), half of my family forgot (we always make a big deal out of birthdays but hey ho, I'm a big girl). My mother only sent me a card because my little brother phoned her from the shop and asked her if she wanted him to pick one up. I was sitting beside her when she was talking to him and her response was 'I suppose you'll have to'. She also told me that she wasnt giving me a present because she was sick of all the birthdays.
On my birthday DH ended up working and we had to cancel our planned day out with DD, I ended up cleaning the house and doing paperwork. Didn't even have wine because I was working the next day. All in all it was pretty crappy.
DSis, who is the only one who made any effort forgot to post all of my present. She is the only one who phoned me on my birthday. She apoligised and promised to post it when she could. Told her not to worry about it, I'd get it next time I visit and she had enough on her plate (newborn, trying to get her DD into a school she could actually get to, work being horrible to her whilst she's on maternity ...)
That's the background (sorry if is sounded selfpittying and ranty)
Today, I'm at home with 3 children, aged 2 and under enjoying the sunshine in the garden (I'm a childminder so generally have a houseful!) and there is a knock, open the door and there is a delivery driver with a gorgeous bunch of flowers and some chocolates.
The lovely card read 'sorry you had a rubbish birthday, made worse by a crap sis who forgot to give you all your present!' I actually cried (whilst wrestling the flowers from the 1 year old and the chocs from the 2 year olds). Phoned DSis who said she's been feeling guilty for not making it to the post office (did I mention the newborn, work problems etc).
She is really lovely and I wanted MNet to know :)
Also she has a big birthday this year so I would like to get her something special, she really does deserve it. Any ideas?
