To be a bit miffed that my neighbour didn't appologise

Just come home and neighbours septic tank is leaking all over our drive! Popped over to let them know, as wasn't doing this when left this morning. Was met with 'yes we know thanks' and then door shut!

Normally get on ok, but do keep ourselves to ourselves a bit as they have slagged off every neighbour in our row of houses to us and would rather not be involved in their politics. However despite this the dh is lovely in the fact that if you have any problems with diy etc will race to help you.

So am I being a bit oversensitive? Had to struggle with dd(2) and shopping round massive puddle of sewage. Dd getting over excited as she thinks its a nice puddle to jump in just like peppa pig!

Maybe they were a bit Blush you have their poo on your lawn and would rather you not come over to point it out?

kweggie · 06/09/2012 15:12

I think you have been very nice, it would have been better if they had offered to clear it up and apologised.......aren't people amazing?

spidermanspiderman · 06/09/2012 15:55

I understand that these things can happen but not to even say sorry just seemed a bit rude. Just been to collect ds from school and puddle has now grown even more and is trickling on to another neighbours drive. Other neighbours won't be as understanding (evil laugh)!

I think you could legitimately go back and ask what they've done about sorting it and how long you'll have it on your drive, which is what they should have told you instead of shutting the door in your face.

I would have apologised, and you probably would have too, but they might not feel they have anything to say sorry for if it's overflowed for no fault of their own?

They should apologise for being snippy with you though, but going on what you've said about the way they are with the other neighbours don't be holding your breath on it.

AgentZigzag · 06/09/2012 16:11

Or you could just leave it to your other neighbour and save yourself the bother? Which is probably what I'd do actually, keep well out Grin

Paiviaso · 06/09/2012 16:14

I suspect they are in a very bad mood over said leaky septic tank and are maybe running into problems getting someone over to look at, etc. And then you show up at the door...

They were rude, but maybe give them some slack.

RuleBritannia · 06/09/2012 16:17

Septic tanks have to be emptied by a lorry that comes to do it, don't they? If that's the case, the problem lies with their contractor. I might be wrong about the collection system though.

Would you be able to hose down your drive swilling it onto your neighbour's drive to somewhere?

spidermanspiderman · 06/09/2012 16:36

Hi everyone, hope I have answered everything:

The tanks get emptied only when you phone and book someone (and negotiate a deal). They aren't emptied on a contract, if your careful with your waste (cleaning products, brand of loo roll etc) shouldn't need emptying often at all. They are not emptied by any firm in particular.

Unfortunately my drive is slightly lower than the neighbours so any hosing would mean it would just wash back onto my drive.

Think will just leave for the other neighbours to deal with and watch the show (from a discrete location). I know from the way they have always been previously that the problem will get fixed quite quickly so not too concerned about that.

Yup, exactly what ^ poster said. I know they might have been rude, but probably really busy trying to get it sorted. I know if someone came to my door to tell me what I already knew, I "may" be a bit rude cos I was stressed. I am sure they will apologise when it all calms down.:)

1sassylassy · 06/09/2012 16:42

So they never told you if they have arranged to have the tank emptied?I would be on the phone to enviromental health if it was my neighbours and the situatuio could get worse before it gets better.

CaliforniaLeaving · 06/09/2012 16:46

Wow rude. If my septic was leaking all over your drive I'd be apologizing and letting you know when someone is coming to pump it out and fix it. I wouldn't expect you to clean of our poop, we'd do it or arrange for someone to do it. It must stink to high heaven. I know some of our neighbors have problems with theirs when it rains hard, and the stink can be really bad. Hmm

MAYBELATERNOWIMBUSY · 07/09/2012 20:51

be careful with that , i know u know it is a massive health issue and the council can order it done,/ do it themselves and bill those responsible
