Last night's episode was not as good. The acting was amateur at best.

AIBU?

OP posts:

YABU. I loved it and squealed and squeaked with excitement through most of it.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 06/09/2012 12:51

I loved it, fabulous stuff.

KellyElly · 06/09/2012 12:58

I loved it! Don't remember the orignal very much though so not sure if YABU or not.

WillNeverGetALicence · 06/09/2012 12:59

I never saw the original. But DH was a huge fan.

We both sat and watched it last night. I was sucked in despite myself. I thought it had better acting than I'd expected. Although don't like the looks of the two male leads at all - thought John Ross was too smooth and bland, quite insipid really for the character [although his acting was okay]

And the Desperate Housewives guy [Christopher?] was pretty but weak chinned. Good acting though I thought.

It's just that Bobby and JR have huge charisma but more interesting looks and the pretty boy male models don't match up.

Apart from that thought the storyline was reasonably interesting and characters and their storylines woven in nicely.

But I did remark to DH that everyone seemed so incredibly volatile and hyper-emotional, they will all get gastric ulcers let alone stomach cancer and clinical depression!

DH just seemed a little underwhelmed by it whilst explaining the great moments of Dallas to me, ie who shot JR.

I think I could keep watching, liked the scenery and music as well, but then have nothing to compare it to.

What were your thoughts OP?

EnglishGirlApproximately · 06/09/2012 12:59

The acting was always amateur! That's the whole point! I loved it so yabu Grin

WoahNelly · 06/09/2012 13:00

Me too Ken

Ii was trying to be cool, but epic fail

Squeee ! Sue Ellens quivering lips are back !

glastocat · 06/09/2012 13:01

But the acting was always rubbish! I thought it was great, just like the old days.

Lovemy3kids · 06/09/2012 13:01

I didn't think it was as good as the original....found myself not concentrating at times....will give it another week tho to see if it improves - after all it does have Jesse Metcalfe in it! Grin

one thing I would like to say is how bloody awfaul (apart from Sue-Ellen) the original cast members looked with all their plastic surgery - shocking Shock. Wonder what they all would look like had they aged gracefully.

Also.....no wonder desperate housewives has finished when the cast members now seem to be in Dallas!

effingwotsits · 06/09/2012 13:09

I thought it was fabulous, didn't want it to end. I can only just remember the original and begging to stay up and watch it.
I think I'm hooked already!

StickyProblem · 06/09/2012 13:51

Original Dallas is on channel 147 every weeknight at 11pm, if you have Sky, and we've been watching that for a few seasons - not to mention I was a massive fan in the 80s when I was about 12.

I enjoyed it... I thought they did a really good job of staying true to the original, while updating it. They certainly updated the amount of "stuff" that happened - you'd get a quarter of that much action in one full episode of old Dallas!

License I completely agree, the older actors are carrying the drama. They didn't do much with Sue Ellen, I guess most of what she did was have men fall in love with her in the original, hard to reprise 30 years later! Patrick Duffy's voice is fantastic, it hasn't aged at all.

I thought Christopher was great, John Ross... he looked handsome, and really had a flavour of JR with the evil machinations... but there's something about him I find quite boring. Ray Krebs appears to have morphed into Keith Chegwin!

Cliff Barnes is in Episode 3... looking forward to that :)

StickyProblem · 06/09/2012 13:52

Sorry - channel 149, not 147.

DappyHays · 06/09/2012 15:07

YABVU

FreudianSlipper · 06/09/2012 17:23

i loved it especially when JR came out of his deep depression within seconds on hearing that Bobby was selling soutfork and started plotting :)

it is not as glamorous and glitzy but still over the top great fun entertainment

Mamma, though sadly missed still has a strong presence :)

x2boys · 06/09/2012 18:55

i missed the beginning but i have one question wheres pam and whose that woman bobbys with i heard victoria principle did nt want to come back but what happened to her character?

LauraShigihara · 06/09/2012 19:08

DH fell asleep on the sofa at eight o'clock last night (on our wedding anniversary, thanks DH) so, out of sheer boredom I put this on.

And I loved it! Fab! I hadn't read anything about it so when I saw Mr hagman in the chair, I thought 'Aaahhh, poor old thing, he is just having a little cameo part'.

When he opened his yes and had the old JR twinkle I could have punched the air Grin

OrangeImperialGoldBlether · 06/09/2012 19:33

Did anyone else laugh when Bobby said he had stomach ache so his wife went to get him a tablet - she goes into the kitchen, hears a noise (do they really have no burglar alarm or dogs?) and grabs a gun from the gun safe (incidentally leaving its door wide open) and chased the intruder, all without shouting to Bobby?

And then the police come and say something like "Next time, shoot to kill" (anyone remember exactly what was said? Made me laugh) and she said, "Oh I will" as though that was a really normal conversation to be having.

OrangeImperialGoldBlether · 06/09/2012 19:34

Did anyone else feel a desperate urge to cut JR's eyebrows?

germyrabbit · 06/09/2012 19:37

it was crap, like every other american soap at the moment, which is a shame, but dallas was of its time and can't be bettered imo

violathing · 06/09/2012 19:38

I over it too, was christopher adopted as I really don't remember him from the original. I do remember ken Barnes is he in the picture?

OrangeImperialGoldBlether · 06/09/2012 19:40

I don't remember how Christopher came about, either. Anyone with a really good memory here?

FurCoatSkimpyKnickers · 06/09/2012 19:54

I was getting excited before it and thought I was setting myself up for disappointment. I needn't have worried, I loved it.

DappyHays · 06/09/2012 19:54

Christopher was the daughter of Sue Ellen's sister Kirsten (who incidentally shot JR after having an affair with him).

Kirsten died and her boyfriend (baby's father) sold the baby to Pamela and Bobby. I think in the very first episode, Pamela fell off a horse and lost a baby, after that she couldn't have kids.

DappyHays · 06/09/2012 19:55

Sorry, Christopher was the son, there has been no sex changes in the intervening 20 years Grin

DappyHays · 06/09/2012 19:58

Orange I've watched the whole series on American TV and guns are Bobby's wife's thing.

I loved last night when Bobby announced he was selling Southfork and the camera did an individual shot of all the reactions. I was really reminded of Joey from Friends sniffing fart face as taught at his acting lessons.

OrangeImperialGoldBlether · 06/09/2012 19:58

I have driven past the Dallas ranch!
