Can a gift of flowers be a total slap in the face?

Someone who I used to be quite friendly with dropped round this afternoon to give me a bunch of flowers. Sounds nice, doesn?t it, but it felt like a real slap in the face. They were the drooping remnants of the floral decorations from her wedding which I wasn?t invited to! Wrapped in an old carrier bag!

I can?t work out if they were a peace offering or an attempt to rub my nose in it. She?s been a PITA this year and I have been desperately trying to distance myself from her as I?ve found lots of the things she?s said and done this year to be immensely hurtful.

AIBU to think she was trying to be bitchy and not see it as a nice gesture?

Very odd, who on earth would do that.

LadySybildeChocolate · 04/09/2012 23:30

Sound a bit bitchy to me. If they were new flowers it would be different. She doesn't sound like your friend. Sad

... stupid computer ... has converted my apostrophes to question marks... but guess it's still clear what I've written?

Hmm. What a weirdo. Try harder to distance yourself from this person.

Fecklessdizzy · 04/09/2012 23:36

Odd. I'd go with peace offering myself but I'm notoriously wet. Seems like a lot of faff to go through just to spite you, if you see what I mean, why bother? She probably has a faint feeling she's pissed you off and is trying to make amends ... ( See? Total drip Grin )

pictish · 04/09/2012 23:37

I dunno - I reckon I'd be quite insulted by that. Like scraps from the table isn't it?

I'd not be entertaining it anyway.

Markingthehours · 04/09/2012 23:39

she obviously does not hold you in high esteem if this is supposed to be a placatory gift.

Athendof · 04/09/2012 23:39

Where the flowers ok? if they were 1-2 days away of hitting the bin, I would be offended yes.

If not, I would only think she is weird.

Either way I would distance myself.

I'm so glad I posted this. I've been feeling so peed off about it all avo. Will sleep much better tonight. Thank you. Smile

Just have to work out how to distance myself further. She's just not getting the message!! I normally manage to shake the weirdos more easily than this.
