To think Stephen Fry is NOT a national treasure

Just listening to his English Delight on Radio4. Dire.

I've never understood all the adulation around him. He is accomplished, well-spoken, prolific. But so are many other actors and authors.

His TV documentaries, especially are really meh.. Dont get me wrong, they are very well made (the one where he travels America, another one on languages), but what exactly is the Stephen Fry touch? Any other knowledgeable presenter could fill his shoes and no one would know the difference...Only liked him as Melchett. Lost all respect for him when he started wittering away posting on Twitter, to be honest.

"He said that women don't hang around in parks looking for casual sex with strangers in the same way some gay men do. I'm pretty sure thats true."

Women don't need to source anonymous sex from parks. They can go into a bar or a club and hook up pretty easily. That's just one way. Quite why a celibate gay man thinks he knows anything about this is patronising, at best.

And unless men are all sleeping with the same small handful of women, and unless lesbians are sleeping with men - I think it's fair to say women's sexual appetites aren't all that different from men's.

MarysBeard · 07/09/2012 16:01

He's not perfect. I don't think perfection is required for national treasure status though.

MarysBeard · 07/09/2012 16:03

I can't listen to his recent programme on R4 though as it reminds me too much of the Tricky Linguistics Fry & Laurie sketch :)

Steven Fry? Excuse me while I spit. Don't believe me, just ask yourself some simple questions. There you are, I told you so.

TiggyD · 29/03/2016 16:24

Can you say that again James, but in Human?

Zombie thread by the way.

i think he's a complete arse who does fake doe eyes and pretends to be humble and is a complete arse. can't bear him. smugger than smug. i'd cross the road to avoid him.

Burchill is an attention seeking psychopath. She sobs into her pillow every night (alone) and she has a fear of death that controls her whole life. Nothing she says is of any consequence. Even as I write I'm playing into her hands. I must stop it - and so must you.

In the words of the wonderful man who inspired my username: 'thou shalt not question Stephen Fry'.

Do any of you actually know him? No, I thought not.
