WIBU to try to negotiate a discount on DD2's birthday party?

Sigh.

I booked DD2's birthday party at a local leisure centre after checking the cost for the party. No problems, all fine, very competent and professional staff member.

The deposit was paid, and then I asked a technical quert about the activity and was given the number of the leader to answer my question.

I phoned him up regarding this and was told that the party cost did not include his fee. The party cost has now doubled! Ffs.

The cost quoted by the leisure centre was for hall hire only.

I spoke to the manager this morning and suggested to him that there was an obvious training need with his front line staff and that his paperwork wasn't clear enough on this point. He agreed with my (pleasantly mafe) points and said he'd speak to his staff and amend the paperwork.

I asked if I could have a reduction in the cost of the hire of the room as the new total cost was way out of my party budget. All invitations were out and I have had many confirmations so far for this Sunday, so really too late to cancel - I've just got to pay the extra cost. Sad

He agreed a £20 reduction. Big wow. But I guess it helps.

Now my DF has just told me I'm a cheeky cah to ask for a discount. So I'm feeling a bit crap really.

WIBU asking for a discount?

No, not at all. They need to sort it out for the future also.

DontmindifIdo · 04/09/2012 10:42

Not cheeky, you were misled. The discount should reflect that.

HeathRobinson · 04/09/2012 10:43

YWNBU. But the centre was.

Ithinkitsjustme · 04/09/2012 10:45

I'd have asked for a discount as well. YANBU

GravyHadALumpyMashBaby · 04/09/2012 10:46

If the staff and paperwork led you to believe the figure quoted was all in then they should have given you more than £20 off! I'm assuming that's not much of a percentage reduction based on your big wow. Sad
Unacceptable IMO. Really crappy practise.

Thanks - I was really starting to question myself after the conversation with my friend.

Yup, £20 seemed a little on the low side to me, too.

Angry

Ywnbu to ask for a discount because of the misunderstanding, but I think YABU to think that £20 discount isn't enough.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 04/09/2012 12:31

Oh.

But the party has DOUBLED in cost!

[rather cross and shouty]
