I just noticed on the other thread there was a reference to a pump - AIBU or is this a horrible word? Grin

They are farts in this house but I tell DD and DS1 to not do them in public or talk about them. DD's nursery call them trumps and I wish they wouldn't as she laughs like a loon at Nellie the Elephant now ...

Or fart

ouryve · 02/09/2012 14:56

Farts, pumps (that's a word DS2 can actually say!) and boffs, mainly. A loud fart accompanying some music tends to attract the comment "wow, that was a bum note!"

Yes, we're klassy in this house.

crackcrackcrak · 02/09/2012 14:58

fart. just that. i cant bear trump, sorry

Corygal · 02/09/2012 15:00

We all fart and gurk (belch) openly so no one needs to name anything that is already out there - but we do grumble loudly about those emissions where other people have to leave the room.

In return, the farter will indignantly complain we are 'mocking the afflicted' and loudly lament their 'grotesquely ripped anus'.

whathaveiforgottentoday · 02/09/2012 15:02

popoffs here and trumps, definitely not farts as I really don't like the word. Not prudish as no problem with other swear words, I just don't like the word.

Corygal · 02/09/2012 15:04

My GM used to claim her foully toxic old chihuaha, who was the true biological WMD Blair never found, performed "bottom smiles".

LackaDAISYcal · 02/09/2012 15:06

Farts, trumps, bottom burps (thanks, Purple Ronnie).

DH is convinced that the French say "Ou est le canard?" (even though his DF's French wife looked like this ---> Hmm when he asked her about it :o ) and that has stuck in this house as our wee in-joke.

My parents used pump, it just sounds too twee though

thegreylady · 02/09/2012 15:06

farts- but when I was little it was pumps [giggled when I heard gym shoes referred to as pumps]

MisForMumNotMaid · 02/09/2012 15:07

Ds1 bottom burp, rest of us fart unless granny is in earshot then it's break wind

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/09/2012 15:10

'Pump', 'trump' or anything else that rhymes with 'dump' is just NOT ON. YANBU. Grin

Here we call them 'boops' which I'm not that happy with (I'd prefer fart) but it's DS1's word for them. Fine. I much prefer the down-to-earth fart, but I can just about accept that in DS1's case, it might be unwise to send him to school boasting that he's just farted. Hmm

ReshapeWhileDamp · 02/09/2012 15:12

My parents used to call them 'pardon mes' HmmHmm, which, given they used to swear the air blue, I find baffling. They soon stopped with the pardon-me-ing when my brother came back from school saying fart, though. Grin

Ilovedaintynuts · 02/09/2012 15:17

DH grew up saying 'pumpy' I grew up saying 'trump'.

Like a previous poster I find it easier saying cock and cunt than pumpy

pumpkinsweetie · 02/09/2012 15:20

I come from the South-East and as a kid we called them "pumps" Grin. My kids and i now call them "farts" or "pops" except my 4yo who calls them "poo poo stinks"Smile

lancaster · 02/09/2012 15:20

Toot, and the smell left behind is toot air!

Wearsuncream · 02/09/2012 15:25

Bottom burps - just don't like the f word!!

thekidsarealright · 02/09/2012 15:28

Whizz pop Bangarangs or pips

melonandpapayaandmango · 02/09/2012 15:32

Wonder why some people dislike the word fart? Grin

Toot and pump and pumpy are AWFUL!

Farts

clicketyclick66 · 02/09/2012 15:36

Breamanaí, we call them here in Ireland - pronounced bram-an-ee!

Love the OP about Nellie the Elephant Grin

BlueCanary · 02/09/2012 15:41

For some reason we say Guff even though i hate the word! I cringe every time its said. I think it may have been DHs idea Hmm.

WeAllHaveWings · 02/09/2012 15:43

when ds(8) was little it was bottom burps, but as soon as he started school it was farts.

MsVestibule · 02/09/2012 16:10

I was the poster who used the term "pump" in a previous thread that so rattled you, Melon! Obviously I'm truly honoured to be the inspiration for a thread on a thread Grin.

I've always called it a pump and always will. It amuses my DH no end that I use such a prissy term when I often swear like a trooper.

aquashiv · 02/09/2012 16:22

Farts
or who the hell needs the toilet?

theinets · 02/09/2012 16:30

We say "who's dropped their guts" in my house!

Bluestocking · 02/09/2012 16:41

Farts all the way. I can't stand all those twee euphemisms.
