I just noticed on the other thread there was a reference to a pump - AIBU or is this a horrible word? Grin

They are farts in this house but I tell DD and DS1 to not do them in public or talk about them. DD's nursery call them trumps and I wish they wouldn't as she laughs like a loon at Nellie the Elephant now ...

YABU - the whole thing makes my toes curl! I have no problem with the mention of cunt, fuck, arse, cock and any other expletive aboutany thing else at all - but any mention of that particular f word or any other description just makes me boak. They don't need to be refered to - that is all. Grin

RunYouBastardRun · 02/09/2012 13:23

We say fart. My friend says 'Ooo, has someone poppied ? Have you done a poppy ?' which apart from making my teeth itch and causing me to sit on my hands so I don't rip throats out was fine until her friend had a baby and called it Poppy.

PuppyMonkey · 02/09/2012 13:23

used to be trumps, but is now firmly farts since ds got to 4!!

alienreflux · 02/09/2012 13:29

my dad used to say 'who trod on a duck?' when he let one go

Emmielu · 02/09/2012 13:29

DD says guff or guffed. OH calls them love puffs Hmm

NinaHeart · 02/09/2012 13:33

Another Nottingham person here and as a child they were "trumps". Caused much mirth if had to sing hymn with a line in it about "the last trump shall sound"
Now they are farts, although my children used to call them "bottyburps"

firemansamisnormansdad · 02/09/2012 13:34

Farts, definitely. At DS school they say "pumped" which is gross.

firemansamisnormansdad · 02/09/2012 13:37

Actually, they say "poomped" and "kirk" for coke but this is a different conversation.

Badvoc · 02/09/2012 13:39

Trumps or botty coughs

Spinaroo · 02/09/2012 13:39

Pumps, maybe it's a Scottish thing? Pmsl at euphemia Grin

ScooseIsLoose · 02/09/2012 13:41

Trumps or let off Smile

PorkyandBess · 02/09/2012 13:42

We say fart.

Hate all the twee euphemisms, so have encouraged 'fart' from an early age.

AKissIsNotAContract · 02/09/2012 13:43

We call them farts. Love puffs are fanny farts!

Thumbwitch · 02/09/2012 13:44

When DS was a baby, it was "pop pop" - but very soon switched to farty (as in "you're having a farty party in your pants again, aren't you DS".
Mostly just called fart now, but still farty occasionally. DS is 4.8 so I'm not worried.

In our house growing up, Dad used to call them prubs or trumps.

Emmielu · 02/09/2012 13:53

AKissIsNotAContract - that's what I keep telling OH! I even googled it! But he's 100% sure it's love puff. I let him get on with it.

IgnoringTheChildren · 02/09/2012 13:56

We decided not to go with fart once DS1 arrived for fear of offending (or rather other people being offended by his use of the word) so it's parp in our house (except when I forget).

I also can't stand most of the alternative terms and after reading this thread wonder if we should just call a fart a fart... Grin

BCBG · 02/09/2012 13:57

'windy bottom' when they were babies - has now inevitably become a family saying Blush so I find myself saying FART loudly to show that I am normal -and not the sort of person who covers her sofa in plastic and has doilies- Grin

DontmindifIdo · 02/09/2012 13:58

Trumps here too. Or bottom smells, but mainly they get called trumps.

StuntGirl · 02/09/2012 14:40

fireman sam You're not from Hull by any chance are you?

Ecgwynn · 02/09/2012 14:47

As a child I called them windy pops. I called penises tassels. Needless to say I dropped this when i went to school.

AmIthatbad · 02/09/2012 14:52

We say pump here. We used to get slagged off at school when we were wee, as my rather prim DM used the term "passed wind". We stopped using that pretty quickly Grin
