seems to be everyone agrees or no one can be arsed to argue any point these days

Been here in different guises for many years. It used to be that AIBU was my first port of call. Now it tends to be active. Smile
Don't know what has happened but sometimes feels more like netmums than mumsnet. Feels like everyone is so much nicer than they used to be. Hmm
Either that or we are all knackered from the summer hols?!
Really hoping it gets back to normal soon Grin

AGiraffeOnTheDivingBoard · 31/08/2012 22:58

Oh oh oh I agree with someone. It IS because of the summer holidays.

TheEnthusiasticTroll · 31/08/2012 23:00

meh

AgentZigzag · 31/08/2012 23:01

I know you can do better than that TET Grin

Even giraffe's put more effort into her fence sitting than you.

perfectstorm · 31/08/2012 23:03

There have been a lot of insane overreactions here recently. And a lot of people who seem incapable of separating disagreement from personal attack, and conversely seem incapable of disagreeing without making it a personal attack.

I do wish that distinction was remembered a little more often.

Nancy66 · 31/08/2012 23:04

You are right it has.

And 'leave the bastard' is really tired too.

24Hours · 31/08/2012 23:05

I like it when people are informed, rather than just spilling nonsense.
Double blind peer reviewed is the gold standard.

24Hours · 31/08/2012 23:07

Agree with perfectstorm.

But with a subject like domestic violence or whether women really are oppressed by a power mad, male oriented society, double blind peer reviewed journal articles aren't going to be a whole lot of good 24hrs.

AgentZigzag · 31/08/2012 23:09

(unless you've got something to back that statement up with Grin)

StripyShoes · 31/08/2012 23:10

But Maryz, do you use references to back up your point of view?? I expect a comprehensive bibliography with each post, complete with footnotes and relevant links to all excerpts. Ta. Grin

(why did that all stop, btw? Maybe would should starting asking for it again! Shock )

HarleenQuinlan · 31/08/2012 23:11

A huge number of people are just really shit at debating. They take a general statement/difference of opinion/true fact as a PERSONAL SLIGHT and so start the accusations of bullying and nasty bitches etc etc

24Hours · 31/08/2012 23:12

Yes. When people say I think x, because of y and z. I may disagree because of a and b, but nit because they're a cunt.
Some of you may be surprised to learn I have been wrong once or twice. Am pretty smug when I graciously admit it.

AgentZigzag · 31/08/2012 23:12

Is it really possible to hide a thread you're getting a kicking on that's not going well for you mary, and not look at it again?

I've only done it a couple of times, and can't help looking to see what's been said.

I love it when posters announce they're taking some control back and leaving the thread, only to come back with a retort ten mins later Grin

Makes them more human.

24Hours · 31/08/2012 23:13

Lots of x posting there!

HoopDePoop · 31/08/2012 23:13

YANBU. MN has gone to the dogs. Ain't like the good ole days.

AgentZigzag · 31/08/2012 23:15

On Yahoo Answers they've got a box at the bottom so you can reference the information/advice you're doling out 24hrs.

I'd admire someone if they wrote 'because I'm a cunt' as a back up to their post Grin

I blame the bastard who ever over emphasised and brought "first world problems" to the vocabulary of MN. seems folk are over playing that card.

worldcitizen · 31/08/2012 23:23

Where do you get all the energy from to actually look up links and try to get your point across and educate some posters here etc.???

I feel I am neither getting grades nor am I getting paid to do that. So I essentially add my stuff and like to read and lurk, but am not so bothered about winning...does that make sense Confused

WorraLiberty · 31/08/2012 23:24

I like a good old debate but it annoys me sometimes when some people try to 'close it down' by playing thread bingo or saying something like, "Waits for the usual apologists to turn up".

What they're basically saying is, anyone on the other side of the debate shouldn't be taken seriously.

When you think about it, you can only play thread bingo with certain subjects because the things you 'mark off', are the real views of real people....that's why you'll see them typed so often.

Anyway, no matter what side of a debate you're on...you'll still be able to play thread bingo.
