I don't know if this is a u.k wide thing but here in Glasgow so many people call a baby's dummy a tit or titty. It sounds vile .I used to hate it when my little ones had dummies and some old man would bend over the Pram and say " awww baby are you sucking your tit"?

Jaggythistle I made shortbread once and when I realised how much butter goes into it I swore I'd never eat it again.

jaggythistle · 31/08/2012 20:56

i love making brownies just because it requires a whole pack of butter. recipe on this site for never fail ones is good.

OvO · 31/08/2012 20:58

Tablet is dead easy to make. If you keep stirring the whole time you cannae go wrong. Bonus is that folk think you're well clever and are impressed that you've made your own!

If you google it there's a blog with pictures which is really good.

lovebunny · 31/08/2012 20:59

calling anything a tit or titty is yuk.

my brother had a dodie. didn't know where the name came from but the irish connection is likely, as there is irish heritage and my parents' friendship group was mainly irish.

lovebunny · 31/08/2012 21:00

and tablet is wonderful. wonderful.

tittytittyhanghang · 31/08/2012 21:03

i love tablet, but hate it when you buy it and its grainy, should be smooooove and melt away to nothing on your tongue Grin

LST · 31/08/2012 21:09

I say dummy tit. Well my nan really.

DowntonOut · 31/08/2012 21:16

Noooo! You have to be able to grind your teeth on tablet. If it's soft, it might as well be fudge. Wink

PumpkinPositive · 31/08/2012 21:20

Pfffft tablet! Irn Bru chewy bars (RIP) all the way! Grin

apostropheuse · 31/08/2012 21:20

Dummy tit, was originally dummy teat. I've no idea how or why the pronunciation changed. It's a perfectly innocent, and actually very appropriate, term.

Tell tale tit yer mammy cannae knit
yer daddy cannae go to bed without a dummy tit!

...the ultimate comeback - you jast cannot top that in an argument when you're a child! I can still remember that feeling if someone said it to me before I thought to say it to them....gazzumped! I've even been tempted to use it as an adult!

apostropheuse · 31/08/2012 21:22

tablet is soooooooo bad for you, but so tasty.

macaroon bars....even worse for you...even tastier! Also dead easy to make!

I'm Scottish (Borders) and never in my life heard it called a tit. Do LOVE tablet..mmmmmmmmm.

jaggythistle · 31/08/2012 21:29

whatever the tablet is at Aldi checkout it's pretty good and melty. not keen on the grainy stuff myself.

PumpkinPositive · 31/08/2012 21:29

Mustn't forget that particular Edinburgh delicacy - the DEEP FRIED AFTER EIGHT!

If you are buying shortbread, Deans is the best make. I know the secret of why they're the best but I'm not telling.

I always call it a "dummy tit" in my head. NE Scotland here.

tittytittyhanghang · 31/08/2012 21:33

what about lucky tatties, no had one in ages. Not actually sure what it is but its covered in cinnamin.

PumpkinPositive · 31/08/2012 21:34

Er, I fink I read about it ... somewhere. I just hate Edinburger. Blush

But I definitely DID see a poster advertising deep fried mars bars in a chippie opposite the Edinburgh Playhouse. Grin
