So I started Zumba last week with SIL and really enjoyed it. This week SIL was hung over so couldn't make the class, but my MIL came with me instead??? She insisted. Anyway my MIL is a M&S/John Lewis loving 64 yo lady.
She turns up and it was quite literally the funniest thing I've ever seen. Arms and legs everywhere. Deffinately worked harder laughing than zumbaing!! I feel quite tight because I think she thought she was doing me a favour coming....and then she was a little embarrassed by all the ass shaking, thrusting and gyrating.Blush I mentioned it to DH when I got back and he said I had been cruel to laugh....but I couldn't stop myself. And I'm still laughing now inside....!! Grin
Would you laugh if your MIL was Zumba-ing a few feet away from you??

This thread needs to be stopped. It's turning nasty now.

Can we divert it into a discussion on skills transfer? There's got to be someone who's tried tae kwon-do and kung fu on here.

BupcakesandCunting · 29/08/2012 15:36

I'll karate the fucking lot of you.

SoleSource · 29/08/2012 15:48

Runs Bup over in my Ford Escort.

I don't see the point of going to Zumba unless you are one or more of : uncoordinated, middle aged, unfit, older, overweight or a fitness beginner. If you are none of those things it isn't fair on the people that are to go. Zumba is a light workout and the choreography is basic if you are an experienced dancer. You should let your MIL enjoy herself and go to more advanced classes if you are good and/or fit.

TheBigJessie · 29/08/2012 16:11

Those who live by the sword hand or foot die by the ford escort!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 29/08/2012 16:27

You'd have a great laugh at my 24 week pregnant belly at Zumba tonight then! Hmm

TandB · 29/08/2012 17:08

Threat?

Excuse me while I wet myself laughing.

[sniggers madly and wees on floor]

OMG Our instructor would have pulled you aside and told you off if you laughed at anyone, unless the person being laughed at had stated the fun.
Our class age ranges from 12 to 70 and it's fast and sweaty. I'm 50 and thinner and swirling hips better than some teens who are totally uncoordinated.
It takes at least 3 or 4 visits to get into it and figure out what you are doing.
I can thank zumba for lowering my Cholesterol and upping my strength and stamina.

Cynner · 29/08/2012 17:43

Sadly, I took the three introductory karate lessons, and never went back. Probably due to issues with right and left.

chandellina · 29/08/2012 17:45

My stepmum is the same age and she's a zumba instructor. What's your problem, well done to your MIL for keeping fit.

arthurfowlersallotment · 29/08/2012 18:01

In fairness to the OP, we don't know anything much about her relationship with her MIL. My friend and I once went to high powered aerobics by mistake and spent most of the class laughing at eachother's flailing limbs.

However, if you were just taking the piss out of the poor woman and she wasn't in on the joke, that's unfair IMO. At least she gave it a go and the joke's on you.

Agree this thread has become nasty but that's no reason to delete it either.

NotAnAxeMurderer · 29/08/2012 18:04

Shame on you OP for daring to laugh in this circumstance. Like most of the other posters, I have never laughed at anyone, ever, not even in my head.

SrirachaGirl · 29/08/2012 18:08

I can't believe anyone would laugh at a newbie in any type of exercise environment Sad. Not cool.

Floggingmolly · 29/08/2012 18:13

arthurfowler. No, we don't. But we do know what she wrote in her first post, which was designed to take the piss out of her mil.

MyLittleMiracles · 29/08/2012 18:23

Well for the record my mum started horseriding again in her mid-50's with me and my sister and she always enjoyed us laughing at her mainly cos she was trying not too and she would laugh at us equally as much i know mean mum, we had fun.

MyLittleMiracles · 29/08/2012 18:28

Reading the op I read it as she was a but embarrassed about some of the moves, and that they done more exercise laughing (assumingly at each other or themselves or a combination) maybe it was poorly worded.
