So I started Zumba last week with SIL and really enjoyed it. This week SIL was hung over so couldn't make the class, but my MIL came with me instead??? She insisted. Anyway my MIL is a M&S/John Lewis loving 64 yo lady.
She turns up and it was quite literally the funniest thing I've ever seen. Arms and legs everywhere. Deffinately worked harder laughing than zumbaing!! I feel quite tight because I think she thought she was doing me a favour coming....and then she was a little embarrassed by all the ass shaking, thrusting and gyrating.Blush I mentioned it to DH when I got back and he said I had been cruel to laugh....but I couldn't stop myself. And I'm still laughing now inside....!! Grin
Would you laugh if your MIL was Zumba-ing a few feet away from you??

You don't sound like a very nice person.
Maybe you should work on your personality rather than your fitness.

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 11:47

Sarah is there really any need for that? Isn't that cruel too? You should be the bigger person! Not stoop to my level.

My mil has been to zumba with me before and we had a right old giggle! She did feel a bit of an idiot gyrating around as she is quite a shy woman but I laughed along with her to encourage her.

I love zumba. My instructor is fab and I get really sweaty. People probably laugh at me but I couldn't care less the judgemental bitches.

ViviPru · 29/08/2012 11:50

I have a girl crush on all of my fitness class instructors Blush

spongebobsquareeyes · 29/08/2012 11:54

I do Zumba, and I tend to find that no one really bothers about what anyone else is doing, we all get the routines wrong and there are many times that I have turned the wrong way and been facing the rest of the class shaking my thing haha! I just laugh it off, and a lot of other people do it too. Those of you that think you will be laughed at, give it a try, it's fun and I find that I'm too busy trying to get the routines right that I don't pay attention to what anyone else is doing. I'm totally crap at it and by no means a skinny minnie btw! I find that people of all shapes, sizes and ages come along and our instructor always gives us lower impact alternatives to the routines.

I also do a belly dancing class with my mum and we can laugh at each other when one of us looks like a tit, so maybe it was like that OP? Laughing together?

spongebobsquareeyes · 29/08/2012 11:56

I also have a girl crush on my instructor!! I like to imagine if I put a lot of effort in I will end up with a body like hers haha!! (A LOT of effort would be needed lol).

MyLittleMiracles · 29/08/2012 12:11

I would have cried with laughter.....And then pretended it was at my own inability to do it and her putting me to shame Grin However seeing as i am divorcing i need not worry about MIL, But my mum would come....she is 65 and up for anything still, and still is able bodied, though she cant go as fast as before

SarahStratton · 29/08/2012 12:22

Plenty.

And I would never mock anyone for their physical or mental shortcomings. I'm perfectly happy to mock such lackings as manners or self aggrandisement though. :)

Cynner · 29/08/2012 12:23

How I wish I could Zumba or do anything of a sporting nature with my darling MIL, she has breast cancer that has gone into her brain. You are being most unreasonable as well as mean spirited.

DialsMavis · 29/08/2012 12:31

I would piss my pants if my MIL came to Zumba with me, it would make my day to see her shaking what her mama gave to her to Sean Paul. She is adorable and I love her, but it would be extremely funny. I have asked her to come as she would love it, but her knees and back aren't up to it.

I am appalling at it myself, I recently saw a woman who had interviewed me a couple of days before there, needless to say I never heard back about that job!

The incredibly scary and prim paediatric nurse who immunised DD goes, she is brilliant at it Smile

TandB · 29/08/2012 12:32

You don't sound very nice.

I am the world's most uncoordinated person when it comes to dancing and dance-type exercise classes. I tried aerobics once and the instructor gently suggested that it might not be my thing. You would probably laugh at me too.

But then I'm in my 30s, so perhaps I would fit your criteria of People Who Should Do Zumba.

But I tell you what - come to a kung-fu class with me and I'll tell you who will have the last laugh! We are all good at different things.

ViviPru · 29/08/2012 12:41

I'm so thrilled that KFP actually does kung-fu. Was probably common knowledge, but that's made me :)

OTheMarriedManatee · 29/08/2012 12:51

You mean kungfupanda is actually a kung-fu panda?

My life is complete Grin

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 13:32

I love mumsnet.
I work one afternoon a week in a charity shop. I look after my friends little boy who is severely autistic one afternoon a week at the weekend. I have raised thousands of pounds for breast cancer charities and Macmillan in the last 5 years since my grandma died of the illness. I am a full time working military mum who missed her first sons first birthday because of the Olympics shambles. I also have a black belt in taekwondo and compete for my service. So excuse me if I don't quake at your threat KFP!!!
I'm not sure why I'm even arguing?? But I think I can sleep easy knowing that perhaps even if I was unreasonable about this, oh and i can't spell, it doesn't necessarily make me a nasty person. And I too confessed to being rubbish at Zumba. I'm sure my mil would piss herself if she saw me trying to bake a cake!!!
Have a nice day ladies. Smile

YANBU I look like a 3 legged donkey when I do aerobics so am used to being laughed at! My MIL started a keep fit routine a few years ago and bizarrely decided to give DH and I a full live run down on the routine after dinner one night when we were staying with them. I thought I might die from the effort of not laughing as she lunged her way round the tiny living room.

SoleSource · 29/08/2012 14:17

You laugh at the Autistic boy too, I bet. You would quake in your boots if you laughed at my disabled child. His Motber needs to see this hbread.

ViviPru · 29/08/2012 14:19

That's not called for Hmm

MrsReiver · 29/08/2012 14:24

That's completely unnecessary Sole, and thoroughly unpleasant.

LtEveDallas · 29/08/2012 14:25

"I am a full time working military mum"

...working one afternoon a week in a charity shop?

"who missed her first sons first birthday because of the Olympics shambles"

...but you've not been called upon for the Paralympics?

Hmmm

TheBigJessie · 29/08/2012 14:40

I'm pretty sure kungfu wasn't threatening you. That's probably why you weren't quaking.
