So I started Zumba last week with SIL and really enjoyed it. This week SIL was hung over so couldn't make the class, but my MIL came with me instead??? She insisted. Anyway my MIL is a M&S/John Lewis loving 64 yo lady.
She turns up and it was quite literally the funniest thing I've ever seen. Arms and legs everywhere. Deffinately worked harder laughing than zumbaing!! I feel quite tight because I think she thought she was doing me a favour coming....and then she was a little embarrassed by all the ass shaking, thrusting and gyrating.Blush I mentioned it to DH when I got back and he said I had been cruel to laugh....but I couldn't stop myself. And I'm still laughing now inside....!! Grin
Would you laugh if your MIL was Zumba-ing a few feet away from you??

Looks like the serious squad are on you op!

SarahStratton · 29/08/2012 10:49

Well, I'm usually first in line for a good old giggle. But not this. I'm fairly confident, but I won't go to zumba because my local classes are full of ignorant people like you, forced. Hmm

Softlysoftly · 29/08/2012 10:49

Careful op op if you back up much faster you might give yourself whiplash

MrsKeithRichards · 29/08/2012 10:51

Oh Sarah just get a grip and go! It's a laugh, people laugh at themselves and each other. It's funny when you jump round and are facing the wrong way. It's a fun exercise!

Giddypants · 29/08/2012 10:53

I wouldn't go with my MIL she is a far better dancer than me I have no coordination and 2 left feet FIL tried dancing with me once I gave him a black eye Blush

ViviPru · 29/08/2012 10:54

The mood of this thread is reminiscent of when one is swimming in the sea through alternating thermal then chilly patches.

Stratters Don't let it put you off. In my Thursday class, the butt of joke is more likely to be the keeno at the front thinking she knows all the moves and getting irked when the instructor misses a beat (ahem... me) than the vast majority who aren't taking it seriously at all and just having a good laugh and enjoying themselves.

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 10:56

Haha yes MrsKeithRichards I should have known better....I suppose I posted in the wrong section. Wasn't sure where to post it, just wanted to discuss it with others as I thought it was quite amusing. I am not actually worried whether people think that I am being unreasonable....I know I've not upset her and if I've upset people on here then they really need to get a life.
Bore off.
Try a class and see what we mean. They are good fun and everyone has a giggle....together. Come to my class you can have a good laugh at me too.

I go with my sisters and we have a blast!

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 10:59

Back up with what Softly?
It was funny it still is funny. If she comes again I will still laugh. As will she and everyone else there.

usualsuspect · 29/08/2012 11:01

Your OP didn't read like that.

Yours,

Ms po faced serious of boresville.

ViviPru · 29/08/2012 11:01

You have to admit though, your OP did not suggest that she was laughing along too, in actual fact you said she found it embarrassing. So you can hardly blame people for finding you a bit harsh.

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 11:03

Fair Point Vivi. I will try and be more detialed in my posts in future.

OP posts:
SarahStratton · 29/08/2012 11:03

Your op tells a different story though, forced. And I don't think I've ever been accused of being po-faced or boring on here before. There's a massive difference between what Vivi and Keith are saying - having a mutual giggle at your own expense, and openly laughing/mocking someone.

You need to grow up and get some manners.

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 11:04

detailed sorry about the shocking punctuation and spelling throughout. I'll give myself lines when I get home tonight.

I have been to Zumba once, it was a great laugh. I'm sure I was the most laughable of dancers, but that didn't bother me. Stopped going due to money, it is £5 a lesson. I got the DVD and occasionally do it at home. Not as much fun though.

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 11:08

I am very grown up and have impeccable manners when it's needed....this isn't one of them.

TheBigJessie · 29/08/2012 11:10

It might be your emphasis in the OP on how you felt "quite tight" about laughing, but you couldn't stop yourself. Thus implying that you would have stooped if you could. Because you felt "tight".

Few posts later, after a dearth of "yeah, it's so funny when in-laws move about" posts, it turns out that all that laughter was totally innocent! You didn't need to hold it in at all, and felt no need to do so!

KenLeeeeeee · 29/08/2012 11:10

You and your MIL having a good ol' mutual giggle through a zumba class = amusing and YANBU.

You laughing AT your MIL, openly mocking her and feeling embarrassed by her lack of coordination = cruel and YABU.

Your OP sounds more like the latter but subsequent back peddling posts confuse the matter, so I'm not sure if you're BU or not.

mirry2 · 29/08/2012 11:12

Firced, what's 'a M&S/John Lewis loving 64 yo lady' ? Clearly not someone who should be doing Zumba? Hmm

ViviPru · 29/08/2012 11:14

Would you laugh if your MIL was Zumba-ing a few feet away from you??

I'd probably weep. Huge, salty tears.

Gentleness · 29/08/2012 11:17

So basically you posted so we could ALL laugh at mil. Not because you thought there was any chance you were unreasonable. What a surprise. So lovely.

Bunnyjo · 29/08/2012 11:19

OP, I agree with softly and KenLeeeeeee - backtrack any faster and you will end up with whiplash! Your OP says you found it "quite literally the funniest thing I've ever seen. Arms and legs everywhere", that your MIL thought "she was doing me a favour" and that she was "embarrassed by all the ass shaking, thrusting and gyrating". Not once in your OP did you mention that she was laughing along with you, or that she appeared to enjoy it, or that she wants to go back. It was only when the unanimous chorus of YABU appeared, that you added all this 'additional information'. Funny that...

I'm with your DH, you were cruel to laugh. You obviously didn't tell your DH that his DM was also laughing and enjoying herself, otherwise why would he call you cruel?

If the above makes me another bore, who needs to 'bore off' who the actual fuck says bore off? then, meh! At least I'm a nice person!

TheBigJessie · 29/08/2012 11:31

Mirry I personally find that M&S sizing and styling these days necessitates Zumba! So I have stopped shopping there. Smile

forcedinsomnia · 29/08/2012 11:35

Ok you're all right. I'm cruel.

OP posts:
SarahStratton · 29/08/2012 11:38

And lacking in manners and humility.
