Regina (the city in Canada) rhymes with Vagina cues sniggers from me when Canadian DH mentions it

Regina

iklboo · 31/08/2012 16:58

DH thought the bit around your nipple was called the alioli. Until I pointed out that was actually a kind of garlic mayonnaise. I don't have garlic nips thank you! Grin

Panzee · 31/08/2012 17:25

WhiteShores and Trazzletoes my husband refuses to believe this. Even though I have demonstrated it on the piano! :o

I used to think that the Moon and Mars were one and the same Blush

gimmecakeandcandy · 31/08/2012 20:36

Cn someone please explain the smarties thing to me?

I don't get it Blush

In simple idiot terms so I understand!

Shakey1500 · 31/08/2012 20:39

For the tube of sweets that are called "Smarties" the TV advert catchphrase doobrie is "Only Smarties have the answer" meaning "Smarties" as in the tube of sweets (who let's face it only have one acceptable tasting one-orange) AND meaning "Smarties" as in "someone who is really clever, like "smart" a "smartie-pants", a "Smartie"

Grin
gimmecakeandcandy · 31/08/2012 20:44

Oh bloody hell! I see! Thanks! Doh!

What about the meaning of life being 42? That was a goon thing wasn't it? Is it just shite or does it mean anything?

Shakey1500 · 31/08/2012 20:46

I think that's from Hitchikers Guide To the Galaxy is it not?

Panzee · 31/08/2012 21:02

Yes, it's Hitchhiker. The question cannot be ascertained in the same dimension otherwise the universe will end (or something)

ScramblyEgg · 31/08/2012 21:09

I've just this week realised that Mini Cheddars are small versions of ... Cheddars.

CheerfulYank · 31/08/2012 21:14

This smartie thing (we don't have those here) reminds me of an ad that used to play on TV alllll the time. It was for Kay Jewelers, and would show some man giving a woman a gorgeous ring or something and then they would smooch enthusiastically while a voice sang "every kiss begins with Kay..." in the background.

DH thought it was stupid, which it is, but also well and truly did not get it until I pointed out the "kiss" begins with "k". Hmm

Idreamofsunshine · 31/08/2012 21:40

When listening to the radio about plans for a gay village in town similar to Manchester's, DP said he didn't think it was a good idea as homophobic people would go and graffiti the houses or cause trouble.

I was crying with laughter and carefully explained it wasn't for gay people to live but an area of nightclubs. DP has never lived it down Grin

Olympicnmix · 31/08/2012 21:45

I spent a long time explaining to dd (6) that there was no such creature as a turtoise, that she was getting turtle, tortoise and turquoise mixed up. I understood as I used to get those confused too.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 31/08/2012 21:48

My friend was in her 20s before she realised Alphabet is just like ABC, alpha and beta, the first letters of the Greek alphabet.

I thought 'dilute' meant delicious, as in 'Squash, dilute to taste.'

Olympicnmix · 31/08/2012 21:51

Camel toes: I thought it was your toes showing in a pair of ballet flats and not what it actually means!

HenriettaPootel · 31/08/2012 21:51

EllenJane I realised that about the alphabet about six months ago. I have a degree in Latin and ancient Greek Blush.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 31/08/2012 21:52

Henrietta, that's awesome! Grin

HenriettaPootel · 31/08/2012 21:53

Thanks. It was not my proudest moment.

mrsaligee · 31/08/2012 22:29

I'm lmao at all these little misunderstandings, particularly flaming' yon and the smarties thing ( can't believe I've just got both of them) but am also laughing at people's usernames. I mean unexpectediteminshaggingarea? Lol! What an entertaining Friday night! Will have to think of something myself . . .

Oh, my cats are called Sam and Ella, took the vet a couple if years to get it . . .

HeadfirstOverTheHighJump · 31/08/2012 22:37

Oh good God, I never realised that about the word alphabet(a), I'm so thick Blush

HeadfirstOverTheHighJump · 31/08/2012 22:38

Just read Henrietta's post, feel less thick now Grin

OAM2009 · 31/08/2012 22:39

blush I didn't get the Smartie thing until 2 minutes ago either blush

And I'm older than blue Smarties.

OAM2009 · 31/08/2012 22:40
