apparently we will find out the start date at their open day next weds, she starts this term and i dont have any idea when, i assumed it would be the same time the schools started ?

i dont work, dh does but how are people supposed to make plans about childcare if they work?

or is this normal?

Very strange, I know for months when dd start date is

Dordeydoo · 28/08/2012 16:33

My mum owns a preschool & it's their policy to notify parents of a starting date a term before they start ie start in Sept they are told by April. Am presuming nurseries would be the same

DozyDuck · 28/08/2012 16:33

It's normal not to have the same starting times, nurseries like to take in children in stages so they can focus on teaching the new ones the routines etc slowly.

It's not normal to find out so late.

That really isn't good. I'm a nursery teacher and I let the parents of all new starters know their settling in sessions and start date back in June. I also made it clear that we could be flexible if the settling in sessions clashed with working patterns etc.
